aannndddd back into his usual sc2 form after his miraculous july-september streak. now he falls back into mediocrity. :/ idek if he'll be able to be in the starting 4 for proleague with KT's lineup looking like zest, stats, ty and life.

+rolling thunder (rollingthunder88) In addition to that he also plays in arguably the hardest scene too, I guess most here know some of his broodwar history and how he's one of the few people recognised as bonjwa for that game. A term that I suppose would best be defined as excelling at the game in competitive play for a long period of time dominating the opposition. I can understand his choices, after starting in that scene on a pro team at the young age of 14 and beating legends in the process. Eventually being pretty much universally recognised as the best at BW towards the end of the lifespan of the game (from a popular competitive point of view). And then starcraft 2 comes along, Flash has a hard time adjusting to the game much like other broodwar legends by this I'm in no way stating that he was a bad player in many ways he did quite well. In a way its a shame he was burdened with his past history which would make no thing but the best of the best acceptable to the audience. He's still a good player now in my opinion, but the biological facts that Kairyu listed up there combined with potential emotional ones can really wear a person down and he may also be considering long term plans. I suspect its probably not a bad idea, the military service is regrettably unavoidable as a Korean citizen and assuming sc2 will do reasonably well (or preferably better) with legacy of the void there should be a decent scene to come back to. Not as a player but perhaps as a coach that some other articles had hinted at, but even if he chooses another field that perhaps has a better long term job and income stability is a very valid option. Being 23 now and probably coming out of the military at 26-27 you're still young enough combined with a far from meaningless past activity to perhaps make your way to a long term job that you can enjoy or at least have a moderate interest in. Kinda regrettable, but this is the world we live in. Just look at any other traditional top sports, there are a few exceptions here and there but look at the world championships/olympics for individual sports. In a lot of cases you'll see very few new names dominate the top and going into it fans and commentators will already be expecting someone out of a small select group to probably take the title. Sure the others have a chance, but statistically speaking not much of one. And then think about the environment you play in with the Korean scene in sc2, you're basically playing world championship level opponents only at events, GMs on ladder (to a lesser extent), etc. and being anything but the best will just seem like "not that great" especially with a history that Flash had in BW. Just have a quick look at tournaments outside Korea and other championships that aren't region locked, have a quick skim through the top 3 of each tournament and count the number of foreigners (non-Korean players).

+Kairyu Source on this? Not doubting you necesarily I would just like to see if theres scientific evidence on this.
@TribunusLaticlavus

DjTsakalos That's a good question you're asking there, I've seen the statement Kairyu is referring to so often I just accept it as the probably true myself. But I've never seen a first party source in the form of a reliable coverage about research or an actual research paper. I should start looking for it or perhaps ask two relatives are in the final stages of their medicine studies before being able to be employed as a doctor. Physical issues after they've played that long on a competitive level definitely are a factor though, let's take Flash as an example: www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/267099-flashs-surgery-has-been-successful ichef-1.bbci.co.uk/news/624/media/images/83445000/jpg/_83445065_83445064.jpg (source: www.bbc.com/news/technology-32996009 ) There's at least a few notable players that I'm aware of towards the point they had to retire for military service their quality of play/playtime was affected by an RSI issue of some kind. And that's in the limited crowd of top koreans I'm aware of, the semi-pros and others that try hard to get there but aren't quite there arguably run the same if not more risk because they might be able to make less time for it but don't have the support infrastructure behind them that a team does. A lot of RSI complaints can be managed better or even prevented mostly with proper guidance when it comes to posture and habits and also limiting the exposure time. The last one might not be viable in a pro player scenario but I would hope that by now teams at least have informed staff in service or on call for when the issues pop up. Depending on how much truth there is to the mental changes that combined can lead to some real issues for the players I guess.
