Just to clarify: ADHD is a serious problem. I do not take it lightly and my intent was not to offend! If I did, I do apologize. I get so many comments lately about going faster, while at the same time many other from users that wish KZitemrs would take these topics slower. I probably could have said that better -- sometimes my frustration with the whole TikTok 30-second 'hook them fast' thing shines through. I appreciate the feedback and will remember this for next time/video.

Hey, yes, that might not have been very tactical! I did not watch the moment before your comment, so I don’t know how it would feel if I heard it without paying attention to hear it. But for someone with ADHD, please realize that it’s not all about being fast, but actually mostly about being interesting! And since your video’s are always high-quality and in-depth, and presented in an fresh and entertaining manner, that means I am interested to see them if they fit what I need to know! So yes, the comment about ADHD might not have been so tactical, but as someone with the disorder, realize that it doesn’t mean I am let down by the length of your video’s, not at all! Your knowledge and style of presenting are so engaging that you trigger the good sides of my ADHD!

@@tris0913 Hey of course it’s clear that it is about those 30-seconds TikToks I also tend to detest. It’s not like because I have ADHD, I like only TikTok-style video’s and dislike long-form video’s. As you can read I don’t want at all to be a ‘Gutmensch’ or act offended, I just called it no so tactical. I think we are more similar than you think

Thank you Chris. Your videos have been of such value to me as a returning to photography amature photographer. I recently got the xt-5 and I am getting used to it, but needed a flash to do a family event. I picked up the Godox tt685 II f and just got started with this video and I feeling much more confident. Thank you and I will be moving on the the second video after doing my homework.

Happy coincidence - today I bought a Godox TT685II to use with my X-T4. Having never set up a flash before, much less use one, I found your video which was way easier to understand than the manual/s. Now I feel like my first foray into the world of flash photography will be considerably less intimidating than if I had tried to make sense of the manuals and in a much shorter time too. Thanks for your always high value videos.

Thanks Chris - I now have the XT-3, the TT685f II, and the GPRO f .. I've watched two step through tutorials by other experts on the Godox kit and was left bemused. I have just watched your part 1 tutorial and it has made things 1000 times clearer, and the homework session has worked, the hands-on element reinforces what you are teaching us. I'm now looking forward to basics 2 and 3. Thanks so much for these tutorials, they are an exemplar of how it should be done.

Ok, got my TT685 4 days ago. Rewatched this video several times getting some of the basics down. I was having problems with auto flash, always flashing even in bright sunlight. Duh, I was using a pancake lens with no auto function. Changed back to the 18-50 (?) lens and worked perfect. Been playing with light strength now. It was shooting so bright it was washing everything out. More practice needed to cement the functions in my brain. Us old geezers don't retain info as fast as we used to. Soon to be ready for the next lesson, but no hurry, lots to practice on right now. Thanks a whole lot.

I just have the basic EF-8 flash unit and I could not get it to work on my XT5. From another KZitem video I learnt that the camera should be set to MS (Mechanical shutter) for the flash to work. I had it on ES. If you are redoing this video at some stage you might want to include that. However your videos are always very helpful. Thank you.

Glad to see this series Chris. I'm an amateur who hasn't delved into flash yet. Instead, I bought a Godox reflector to use outside for fill light on portraits. It worked really well, but I do want to learn to use flash as well. As a teacher I found your use of homework interesting. Homework can be practicing what you just learned. Or, it can be a "try this out and we'll discuss it next time" assignment. That second method can feel painful to some learners, but it pushes you forward and puts some responsibility on the learner to figure some things out. Nice job! Have a great weekend.

Flash photography is the last domain for real photographers to distinguish themselves from people who take pictures with phone cameras and think that's all that is to taking great pictures at weddings, and other social events, etc. Using gels, second flashes behind subjects fired remotely, make the average shooter finally make that step up to display your work on your web site and people will seek you out to pay you to take pics for their next event. Most people who go to You Tube or other sources to attempt to learn about flashes are greeted with technical terms like "inverse square law" "high speed sync" and are intimidated from the get go. It shouldnt be this way, but a lot of smug photographers like that it is presented this way. BTW, your presentation speed is right on.

In the spirit of your previous video on flash speed, I’m tempted by the 860iii with the lipo battery and ability to fire off longer and more rapidly (without the clunky expensive external power source). Supposedly the 860iii interface is also nicer than the 685ii. If I’m willing to spare the cash, is there a reason to get the 685ii rather than the 860iii?
