Basic rules to remember:
- Sharps raise the pitch a half step.
- Flats lower the pitch a half step.
- Flats and sharps are called accidentals! Remember this term.
- All accidentals will last until the end of a measure or until another accidental marking appears on that line or space.
- Only the note with the accidental marking receives the step shift.
All examples here....
- do not require the player to move their hand.
- are in 4/4 time.
- have a key signature of no sharps, no flats. Every time you hit a new bar, accidentals are cleared back to the no sharps no flats key signature.
