What I didn't get about FLCL then but I learned as an adult is that it's about respecting yourself. Like who you like, obviously, seek out those who make you happy. But always respect yourself. If the people you're looking for want something from you that you can't give them, you don't have to try finding it.

the main message i always took from the anime is to move on with life when necessary, and that its not always a bad thing to leave everyone and everything you love behind

Love how his fixation changes from Mamimi to Haruko showing that he keeps going after women seeking something from him that he’ll never be able to reciprocate, ie being a rebound

Who liked this comment? Naota was never interested in Mamimi. He tried to kiss her once because of his inflated ego, not because he liked her.

Totally agree, Naota was never interested in Mamimi, he was clearly aware of her obsession with his brother but he liked the attention.

Also kind of the deal with the ending where he stops to say he loves Haruko, when he actually chooses love she is using him as well. The true love could actually be found within the boring life that he despises

Oh, baby Oh, man You're makin' me crazy Really drivin' me mad That's alright with me It's really no fuss As long as you're next to me Just the two of us You're my, my, my, my kind of woman My, oh my, what a girl You're my, my, my, my kind of woman And I'm down on my hands and knees Beggin' you please, baby Show me your world Oh, brother Sweetheart I'm feelin' so tired Really fallin' apart And it just don't make sense to me I really don't know Why you stick right next to me Wherever I go You're my, my, my, my kind of woman My, oh my, what a girl You're my, my, my, my kind of woman And I'm down on my hands and knees Beggin' you please, baby Show me your world

I really gotta look into the masculinity trope in anime, usually crews or gangs in anime, or just "To become a man", cuz I don't want to misunderstand it, it's funny and then mind provoking, being manly and the manliest, flcl to me is a silly anime, whether it is a commentary about a prepubescent boy going through an identity crisis, or just a metaphor for somebody's innerself just being young and inexperienced, feeling out into the dark and whatnot, it tells one obvious thing, he grows at the end
