The FDNY All Terrain Response Vehicle 329 aka The Sand Vehicle utilizes a 2015 Ford F-550 with a KME Body. It's assigned as Engine 329 as the 2nd Piece. It is cross staffed by Engine 329s Control Firefighter. It does not have a pump and does not carry any water. It's a large manifold. The main purpose of this rig is for parts of the 1st Due Area that have very tight beach walkways that can't fit normal sized fire apparatus. That area is called Breezy Point. It's ran by a Cooperative in which the community is private. The houses are very close to each other and fires can spread rapidly due to the houses being on the water and the winds. As the ATRV has 4x4 capabilities and a air deflate system on board helps moving around in the sand. Engine 329 Responds with the ATRV to all calls in Breezy Point, Floyd Bennett Field and all calls in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd due water rescue area along Rockaway Beach. Engine 329 will stop at the hydrant outside of the walks. The chauffer will remain at the rig connecting to hydrant. ATRV 329 will drop it's 3.5inch supply hose driving down one of the walks until it's Infront or past the fire building. Engine 329 is supplying the ATRV as it's strictly a manifold. They can operate 2 Hand Lines and the Deck Gun at the same time. The 3rd line will more then likely be taking off the 3rd due engine or whoever can get close enough to the fire building. On the 2nd Alarm the Satellite will respond with a portable manifold that can help with more lines at the scene. The ATRV is also assigned to Water Rescues & Beach Rescues as Engine 329 is a Water Rescue Company equipped with Water Rescue Swimmers. The ATRV is assigned to Jacob Riss Park, Fort Tilden and Rockaway Beach to about Beach 115th Street but can be special called for the whole rockaways. They also may be assigned for brush fires in Marine Park in Brooklyn which is right passed Floyd Bennett Field. ATRV is equipped with Cold Water Rescue Suite, PFDs, Wetsuits with boots & fins, 600' ocean rescue rope, torpedo's, life saver, quick release water rescue belt, stokes with flotation, backboard, Set of Irons, CFRD (EMS Equipment), Water Can, Indian Cans, Scott Packs, Bolt Cutters, Shovels, Brooms, Ramps for stuck in sand and hose ramps to get over charged hose. They have a Rescue Surfboard that is just not pictured in the video but normally on both engine & ATRV. It has 300 feet of 3.5 Supply, 6 lengths of 1.75 primary attack hose on each side and 4 lengths each side of 2.5 hose that can be added on to the 1.75 hose. Deck Gun on top that also can be used for heavy volume of fire. They have a 24 ft extension ladder as they can use at fires in breezy point to get to roofs and 2nd floors and even water rescues. During Hurricanes, Snow Storms, Special Events, High Rip Tides they may put the ATRV Inservice as it's own company being called Rapid Response 329. The ATRV also has a winch that can be used to remove something from the water or get them out of the sand.
Average calls is about 300 a year
