I think that say you will is vastly underrated and in my opinion it isn’t too long because to me all the songs are great and it doesn’t seem like they just did a longer album for the sake of it

Yeah, I agree with this completely although I'm tempted to place Tusk at #1 because these days I listen to it more often, but I truly can't say it's a better album than Rumours, I've just heard it so many times! Now Tusk..one of my all-time favorite double albums. Masterpiece! Soooo many incredible deep tracks, Storms, Beautiful Child, Not That Funny, Never Make Me Cry, Save Me a Place, etc..Not a bad track on it.

Totally agree Ed, Tusk is on my turntable more often than Rumours, and is full of great songs ...but Rumours is pretty much a perfect album, even if we have over played it by now.

1. Rumours 2. Fleetwood Mac 3 Tango In The Night 4. Mirage 5. Tusk 6. Say You Will. It’s interesting when you said Say You Will is too long which I agree with but Tusk is even longer. Cut 6 or 7 songs off it and it would have been better

That's a good point, but Tusk has more variety on it and more space in the production, so it feel less dense is far less of a trudge to get through....but it's one of those albums that really divides opinion.

Actually I remember Fleetwood Mac as being 3 bands through the years: The Peter Green Band (1), the Band after he left and before Nicks/Buckingham joined (2), and the one you talk about (3). It is sad that the middle one (they had some line up changes and legal issues) is very underrated. There are real gems on these albums from 1970 - 73 (only Penguin and Heroes Are Hard to Find are "dubious" albums). Listen to Kiln House or Mystery to Me. My favourite Album from Fleetwood Mac is still Then Play On. Number 2 is Rumours. The 1975 debut of your line-up is another great album. Tusk is the only other good one from that era - it could have made a decent single LP as so often with double albums. After that they faded into California superstardom/boredom for me. So in summary your first 3 picks from that era of the band are the ones that count.

Some of the Bob Welch albums are great, really under rated - I may look at a Top 10 Under rated bands or albums at some point and one of those may sneak in...Mystery To Me especially!

Yes, overall it's difficult to argue with Rumours being at the top of the list. It's a very special album. Having said that, Tusk pips it for me for all the reasons you mention, plus the fact that it takes longer to fully appreciate and that's usually a sign of real depth to the songs. Buckingham's 'Save Me a Place' is outstanding, and there are so many other great songs. I agree that Say You Will is too long and the balance that Christine McVie brings to the variety of the songs is missing. However, I put in at number 4 after Fleetwood Mac because it does contain about 12 excellent songs. Tango in the Night and Mirage are 5 and 6 because I strongly dislike the "80s sound" (a big problem for me). I remember giving away my LP of Mirage two weeks after I bought it. So weak and so disappointing.

your description of the "Fleetwood Mac" album shows why it should be at the top of the list. Rumours simply hones the sound of part of the amazing diversity of their masterpiece. Tusk is possibly their white album, but for me too unfocussed - and i do like Say You Will , whereas Mirage is unimaginative filler, so must go to the bottom.

6. Say You Will 5. Fleetwood Mac 4. Mirage 3. Rumours 2. Tango In The Night 1. Tusk Any of the Top 4 could change at any minute. I still need to come to terms with the 1975 s/t to fully appreciate it and Say You Will is great, but indeed too long and a bit sterile without Christine.
