Flex fuel, or flexible fuel, is an alternative fuel made of a combination of petrol and methanol or ethanol. Flex-fuel vehicles are those that have internal combustion engines designed to run on more than one type of fuel. Other than a few modifications to the engine and fuel system, flex-fuel vehicles are virtually identical to petrol engine models.

In future most of the motorcycle (bike), scooty (scooter) car and other vehicles will equipped with flex fuel engine and can run on petrol like E20 fuel, E30, E50, E85 or even E100. Flex fuel vehicles (FFV) are capable of running on 100 per cent petrol or 100 per cent bio-ethanol or a combination of both. Bio-ethanol contains less energy per litre than petrol but the calorific value (energy contained in the fuel) of bio-ethanol will become on par with petrol with use of advanced technology.
In this video, you will get to know what is flex fuel engine, flex fuel vehicles, flex-fuel technology, advantages and disadvantages of flex fuel engine.
