This exquisitely good introduction inspires confidence in your own practice. I have not found comparable explanations in any other tutorial so far.

Not if they existed at time of video but add the DHC2 and DC3 to the list. Also, I think some planes, the tail wheel isn’t steerable. More of a castor arrangement. Thx for the video.

There have been quite a few aircraft added since this was made - no doubt many of them taildraggers. I'm sure you're right about the caster - man aircraft have a large rudder that only needs a little airflow from the engine to be effective in steering. Glad you enjoyed the content. Thanks for watching!

@@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation Just returning to msfs since FS9. I hate airports n bush is only way to fly. Any education to improve that might save me a bunch in trial and error...

I just can't take off with tailwheel planes. I could, a few months ago, but I downloaded the game now after some time and found out that I can't take off. After a few seconds after applying takeoff thrust, the airplane just fully steers to the left and becomes uncontrollable together with the thrust setting itself to 0. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm using a Thrustmaster Flight Hotas X with default settings.

Tognar, try turning on the "autorudder" option when flying tailwheels. It can be found in the "assistance" options under "piloting." The takeoff turning tendencies are way overdone in MSFS, IMHO - and this affects tailwheel aircraft more than most. (The DC-3 is practically unplayable on takeoff without auto rudder on.) Turning auto rudder on should eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) the effects you are experiencing.

@@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation I believe I have it on and I have these problems regardless, but thank you for the advice, I'll make sure to double check the settings.

Great video, congrats! 🙂 How can you stop the taildragger in case of very short runways like in the latest update of MSFS 2020 the "Skyline" Landing Challenge where the runway is only 400ft long?

The best way to do a short field in a tailwheel is probably to use the 3 point/full stall landing rather than a wheel landing. Carefully manage power to touch down as early on the runway as you can, and keep your speed right on the recommended short field approach speed until you're over the runway. Once you're down, use full aft elevator to help you slow, and start tapping on the breaks to get yourself stopped.

@Cass Camden I am just a newcomer to MSFS 2020, never tried earlier any other simulator. I have now close to 300 hours of MSFS 2020 and it was hard to land with the taildraggers in the Landing Challenges and the Landing Callenges Pro from SoFly. When in the MSFS 2020 the Idaho Skyline landing was included I tried several hours to land, without succes. That was the time when I asked for help in this channel which was valuable and another case in SimPaul's channel. He had a video where he explained step by step how to make that Idaho landing. I tried to learn and follow his way and succeeded to get the first score of 99k points then 240k points and finally 348k points. In the meantime SimPaul replaced his video with a new version: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kqqlrWZjpKaanm0&lc=UgybBQJ50VjAKBbunwR4AaABAg.9cp5HfTkZAR9cr7ZSTm-jN which has also detailed explanation about what and how to do. This is another method which I will also try to improve my scores when I get home. So do not give up, just practice as much as possible... 🙂
