if you want a close substitute for obsidian is old TV glass. you know the 1990s TV. it has glass about an inch thick, and is black straight through. I discovered this while I was on a bike ride, and I found an old TV. plus with just one small TV, it will give you all you need for years to come!

Joey Bradbury , becarefull that glass is covered with some poisonous chemicals, plus the gas inside the tube. although not a bad idea for knapping material

Amazing. Wear a gasmask and gloves while working with it then.... inflicts poison damage lol.

Beautiful work! I live where the Hohokam lived and have seen their points in museums and private collections; as a knapper myself, I'm not nearly up to your level of skill... but I'm practicing. Thanks for posting this!

Holy crap. I live in Kilmarnock which is the town that the Jonny Walker factory used to be until a few years past when it got knocked down. It's so cool to see something from my hometown made into something else that is so incredibly beautiful.

Excellent! I have been going to private collections and I have tons of pictures of Hohokam points. The ones I have seen are super small. I imagine they made all kinds of sizes for different game. Their pottery is really pretty too. Keep up the nice work :)

spending so much on a blend is a little sad :( Blue label's flavor disappears as soon as you drink it, its not really worth the 200 buck price tag.

Hey Shawn, I found your channel recently and I'd just like to compliment your entire way of making videos and ask a few questions on flint knapping. So Im really interested in learning how to shape glass and stones, and your videos give a lot of information but not really a whole lot of the extreme basics, which is what I need, do what kind of resources would you recommend for learning? Like, library books, online videos, etc. I honestly don't know what kind of rocks are found where I live, but I have a ready supply of glass, do would you recommend going and finding rocks to learn on or just using glass from beer and liquor bottles? Lastly, I see that you use some pretty specialized-looking tools. I've never hunted large game like deer, mostly because I would never use all of the meat and I'd hate to waste, especially if I'm only looking for the antlers, so how would you recommend I go about getting tools like the antler ones? Do you know of a store or site where I can buy tools, or a way of making them that doesn't involve animal products?

I would like to see common mistakes, why they are mistakes, how to correct actions that make those mistakes, mostly revolving about making flakes. I sure can crunch some glass, but making flakes is more luck than skill for me at this point.

hey nice video Shawn. I was wondering if on the next video on junkyard flintknapping you can make it more of a "how to" video. I'm just starting on knapping and just want to know the dumbed down version making all possible parts of the bottle I can use. thank you
