On this trip we ventured into east county San Diego, to a hidden gem called Santee Lakes. We, as well as many San Diegans, didn’t know this place even existed for more than a decade! If anyone ever needs a good reason to venture into Santee, then the lakes is it!
This private fenced property consist of 300 full hook-up campsites, a bunch of cabins (of which 3 are the floating cabins we stayed in), and many day use areas of the 7 man-made lakes. Lakes 1-5 are open to everyone staying their and day use, while lakes 6 & 7 are exclusive to campers.
There is a restaurant on the premises (Tin Fish) for those looking to just enjoy meals without cooking and some nice local brewed beer. This is also a great place to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the sunshine while fishing all day. Just a tip: Fishing permits and night crawlers can be purchases at the front gate when you enter the lakes.
There are 3 floating cabins at the lakes and we rented all of them for 2 nights. We had some friends come along for this little getaway in such a unique accommodation. The cabins actually float and they sway lightly like cruise ship on calm waters. Interestingly cabin 3 moved a lot, to the point our friend needed to go get Dramamine, so if you get motion sickness you may want to rent the other cabins. We stayed in cabin 1 and it just had smooth slow sways every now and then.
Fishing here is nice because there are multiple lakes open to fish in. We did land a nice size bass from the deck of our cabin the first morning after - bass at the Santee Lakes are catch and release only. If you can, rent all 3 floating cabins (they sleep 4 max each) so the whole floating cabins section is private for your group.
Thank you for all your views, comments, video likes, and support. We appreciate you all.

2. Aperol Spritz. Aperol spritzes are ultra refreshing, not-too-sweet bubbly cocktail. It tastes like summertime in Italy and looks like a golden orange sunset. This easy drink is made with 1 part Aperol, 1 part Proseco and a splash of soda water. Garnish with a slice of orange.
MUSIC HIGHLIGHT:
1. The opening theme song is 'Out Far' by talented musician, Chad Nishioka. This is our favorite song from his album 'Together Apart' and fit with the feels perfectly. To hear the whole song, which does include lyrics, check out our Lake Lake Cachuma video or go to one of the below links. Please support amazingly talented local artists. His song/album, can be listed to and purchased on various outlets such as:
