Water covers more than 70% of Earth’s surface and is home to billions of plants and animals. But plastic pollution in the ocean is threatening this fragile ecosystem. Clear water is essential for life. According to the latest studies, more than 5,2 trillion pieces of plastic are in the world’s oceans. 270.000 tons of marine debris are floating on the sea surface and billions of tiny plastic parts can be found in the deeper waters. On top of rising sea temperatures that cause coral bleaching, marine life is dying because of floating plastic in the ocean. Sea creatures often eat plastic by mistake - it just looks like food, for example, jellyfish, for them. But plastic pollution is threatening humans as well: microplastic can be found in seafood too.
Our plastic that we don't recycle returns to us! Be part of the solution and take action now! Try with simple steps in your household, say no to single-use plastic, and join ocean clean-ups! Together, we can do better!
