I like your thinking with the bungs, I've suggested this to numerous people, particularly attaching them to each sea cock with a lanyard, good video

You forgot the American screwdrivers (hammers ;-). ), both metal and plastic face. I also recommend some Sta-Lok Swageless Fittings suitable for your wire and connections. That way you can create/repair your rigging at sea and/or avoid the big run-around that you experienced repairing your rig.

Fascor make reasonably priced heavy duty pop rivet guns, around 25 $. I'd add a torque wrench, 1 ton coffin hoist (come-along) a few different size bearing pollers and a strong back or 2

Have seen several vids of what tools and spares to pack which have mostly left my head spinning and wondering where the hell they pack everything. This video was somewhat reassuring and also provided great tips for what to add. Also helps that we speak the same language. Eg a spanner is a spanner. Good stuff. Thanks.

Good coverage. However, you forgot the American screwdrivers - i.e.hammers ;- ) - both normal and soft head. I also carry some Sta-Lok Swageless Fittings for the wire size and end fittings that I have on my boat. That way one can avoid the drama that you experienced when repairing your rig in a more isolated place. A small vice is also really useful.

Great tips. You will be sorry about the non-stainless steel bolts and nut though. They will rust in time!!! Go stainless down below too.

With regards hose clamps, get a small magnet and test the strap and the nut for magnetism, the straps are usually stainless but the nuts are often not

Use a cutting compound when drilling metal, particularly ss. Moly disulphide perhaps. Drills last much longer.

Great video! Well done Jackson very informative. One thing I learned over the years is when you’re done with you tools spray them with WD40 and wipe. It will keep the rusting down quite a bit.

I'm an old cruiser from years ago. Great job on tools, etc. One thing you didn't mention is the large wrenches for the stuffing box. Mine required 2 large sized spanners. Good sailing, hi to xanthe.

A twin cable say 5 to 10 metres with crocodile clips each end for running around the boat with a voltage source when troubleshooting. Something I found invaluable.

Get a set of HSS/C drill bits (high speed steel/cobalt) they are gold colour and the absolute minimum for drilling into 316 stainless, you could get tungsten carbide, but they are very brittle and expensive

Helpful Vlog for all. One suggestion, The wooden plugs. Use some Dyneema and attach with a short length within close proximity to each skin fitting, correct size of course. Hard to find a buried packet of plugs when all hell breaks loose. Whoever finds the leak can fix on the spot. All the best and safe travels.

If I could suggest one thing a spare bilge pump I watched another Channel these guys were six days out of port and hit something and split the hall about 6in long up by the bow and they burnt out three electric pumps thankfully for them they had a built-in hand pump was built into their boat and they hand pumped non stop for a day and a half and had it not been for that building manual pump they would have lost the boat so I would consider either get you a spare electric pump or spare hand pump that you can keep on board cuz it happens

Richard Oates it has held up really well surprisingly. We too bought it on a whim for about $400 euro vs about 3,000euro for a zodiac or something. So far so good and it’s had some abuse haha. Thanks for commenting Richard!

WD40 - explain?
@saltysnoopy
5 жыл бұрын
@@SteveWrightNZ WD-40 was not designed as a lubricant but as moisture dis-placement. ... Copied from Google: WD-40 isn't actually a true lubricant. WD stands for "water displacing" and its main use is as a solvent or rust dissolver. The lubricant-like properties of WD-40 come not from the substance itself, but from dissolving components. ... WD-40 can be a good substance to start with - it can help clean up rust or other grime.

Why are you using a drill every day? What do you need so many holes on a boat for? What is "academy glue?" No results on google and you covered the label.
