I did the FOX 2.0 on the front of my stock 21 z71. F-me what a difference. The "Boatyness" they speak of was my only complaint about my truck. I have these 2 "trenches" I have to go over on my way to work everyday and my front end would bounce until my rear end cleared them too. Gone, all the boatyness is gone. Why doesn't Chevy put a strut like this on the truck from the get go. I highly recommend. Yes they are expensive but this gave my truck the perfect ride it's been missing.

Honestly we have never been anything more underdamped from the factory than these GMs with the stock Ranchos. I think too many people complained about their pick up trucks riding like pick up trucks on the previous generations of trucks and they made a heck of an overcorrection! These trucks are one of the few applications where stiffer is actually better

I love the fox 2.0 coilovers on mine but hated the rear. Running deaver m27 leafs and they still felt super chattery and harsh. Feel all the small bumps and even big g-outs didn’t feel that great. Went to them because I thought they’d be softer than 5160’s but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Since then I’ve switched to king 2.5’s in the rear and couldn’t be happier. Soft enough to soak up all the small bumps but stiffen up late in the travel for doing 50+ through the whoops.

@@chuckschweitzer491 yeah, gonna upgrade to king 2.5’s in the front eventually for shits and giggles but the fox 2.0’s in the front keep up surprisingly well. Truck rides nice and plush on the street, but handles decent sized whoops at 50 mph no problem. I’ve got air a few times not meaning to, and the landings weren’t harsh at all. It’s a really solid setup. If you don’t want to spend king money for the rear bilstein 5160’s are pretty damn good. Was much happier with them than the fox 2.0’s in the rear. If you don’t off-road often then you probably don’t need king 2.5’s and will be happy with fox 2.0’s in the front and bilstein 5160’s out back. It's a case by case on what suits someone better for their driving style and what they use their rig for. You have people just using it as a daily driver, some that are using it for towing or hauling aka work truck, or turning them into various off-roading rigs. There isn't a 2.0 snap ring for your particular application, but if you are switching from mag ride, you would have needed the springs, top hats, bump stops and other parts from a non mag ride model to make them work, so it would end up likely being more cost effective and easier over all to simply just go for the full 2.0 coilovers.

Thank you for the video. I have have the same Silverado but it's a 2020. I it came with the Z71 package and I replaced all 4 shocks with the factory Rancho shocks that came with it thinking it would improve the ride quality because I thought the original shocks were worn out after 34,000 miles. The ride quality really didn't improve. The truck feels like it is bottoming out on the bigger potholes and it rides like crap on on uneven pavement, especially roads with seams. I can feel every seam and bump in the road, and I don't like it. It also bounces when I hit a big dip and it has a lot of body roll when going into and out of a fast corner. Another thing my truck does is the "head toss" when you go up a driveway at an angle. I should note that my truck does have air bags for towing, could this be affecting my ride quality? I typically have my airbags at about 5 psi when I'm not towing. I should also note that I do almost no off-roading and I have C load rated 275/65 Bajas on it with 35 psi if I'm not towing. My question is, would the Fox 2.0 shocks help with any of these ride quality issues I'm having? Ride comfort on the road is very important to me. Thanks!
@ShockSurplus
Жыл бұрын
The behavior you explained in the first paragraph is spot on, and the exact same thing we experienced with this truck on the factory shocks. Just felt sloppy, especially the driveway / speedbump behavior. The rear will always ride better when loaded up, so the bags inflated (when not loaded) even a little is going to contribute to ride quality and make it that much worse. Its hard to rescue the ride quality in the rear of these trucks because the leaf spring rate is the biggest factor, you can make it better with some shocks that rebound better than the factory ones (Bilstein, Fox, KYB Mono). The Fox 2.0 is one of the unanimous answers around here when you want ride comfort on the road without sacrificing handling. www.shocksurplus.com/products/fox-2-0-performance-series-coilovers-front-pair-for-2019-2022-chevrolet-silverado-1500

I haven't decided if I will leave the front height stock or lift it 2 inches. My questions are, will this setup reduce the bounce I'm experiencing now? Will the ride feel worse when I go over seams in the road, or will it improve or stay the same? Should I go with a Hellwig sway bars too, or is that unnecessary? I guess what I am trying to accomplish is #1, to eliminate the bounce because I feel it's kind of dangerous. #2, improve the ride quality or at least not make it worse, on crappy roads. And #3, improve control when cornering or towing (I don't tow very often or have a heavy load). I'd also like to improve the offroad capabilities for the rare occasion I may need to go off road to get somewhere.

On my 2011 Silverado Z71 with crappy Ranchos, I replaced them with Eibachs and the ride was much better. Ranch = Crap

I must’ve got a bad set of fox 2.0. They ride like trash compared to the 5100’s I just took off.

Ride quality is definitely very subjective, however I would not be surprised. Generally the Fox 2.0s are a good bit more compliant than the 5100s, particularly over smaller bumps at lower speeds, so most people find them to be a fair sight more plush.

Snap ring worries me. All that weight on a snap ring. I want real world reporting.

Bilstein 4600, 5100 and 6112 front strut use a circlip/snap ring which have no cause any issues unless installed incorrectly. We tested these Fox in various conditions to see how much they can handle and they didn't see to give us any issues. It definitely helped on give it more a stable and confident feeling compared to the factory Rancho. It was great for towing but was definitely manageable. They worked great for off-roading out in Johnson Valley but nothing fast or technically, it was to take the side by side out.
