Probably a daft question - why not weld the various weird holes that come with a Mini shut with blanking plates? I understand drain holes (although it would be better if the car leaked less - yes I understand condensation and putting wet items in the car), but if you are blanking them off then they aren't really draining anything.

No real reason, typically I like to keep things as originally built.

Looks good 👍 I get paint reactions about 30% of the time, I think in this case it’s you’ve applied a bit too much paint too quickly and the top coat has woken the primer causing it to loose cohesion with the bare metal. Such a pity it’s in one of the few places that matters. I hate paint reactions.

Do you know what the point of the floor bungs are if you can't remove them? Mine are rubber and you can remove them to drain water I guess?
@classicminiworkshop

I'm not sure. You can remove them, you just need to replace or re-seal them after. I'm not sure if they were maybe something to do with manufacturing, i.e. drain holes after the body is dipped or something like that

The windows will be coming out to spray the outside so a quick wipe with thinners will sort out any overspray

Looking good mate! You broke the seal of the 2k primer. The etch primer would've been 1k and so is the base coat. The thinners in the Lacquer coat has reactivated the base coat thinners and the etch primer below that i believe. Silicone contamination tends to pickle/fisheye the paint rather than lift it.

That floor looks really good 👍. The conditions in a garage are unpredictable & the only thing you can do is hope for the best. I'll be doing the exact same as you when I get around to painting the inside. As for the cracking in the paint, could be a number of things. It all depends on the coats of base. Ie... if it takes more than 2 single coats of base, the first coat may still be wet underneath the other layers & then when the clear coat goes on the solvents are trying to get out. It's hard to put into text... hopefully you'll know what I'm trying to say 😊😊. I'm sure that you'll be able to flat the cracking out & just repaint the cross member 😊.

Hi Keith, Happy 2024 and I look forward to watching more videos this year. I have a question, if you use a one piece carpet won't it cover up the JCW tag on the seat rail crossmember?? Just a thought, Thanks. :)

Was the reaction from the base or the clearcoat If the car is originally acrylic and the clearcoat is a 2 pack you will more than likely get a reaction as the reducer in the 2 pack is reactivating the acylic try leaving it longer between coats and not as wet once you tend to get over 2 coats you get reaction but im in Australia so we are generally painting in a higher temp like 25+ so it drys off quicker between coats All the best for new year from down under🎉

Good effort Keith.. I know you wont see most of the paint when the car interior is reassembled, but it gives it all another layer of protection. I think that reaction is a tad of over application.. Easy done .. Hope you and your family have a peaceful and prosperous 2024.
