Two years?!? Wow that has absolutely flown by! Thank you so much for the mention - you made my week! Haha retro tripod! Lovely video as always. Haul is always dangerous - rabbit holes abound! I also have a few q-snaps, though not as many as you! Actually I have a qsnap of every square size, but I only use my 11x11 at the moment as I'm waiting on a stand that can hold the bigger ones! I got too excited haha. Otherwise I use a wooden scroll frame or even wooden hoops, which I find easier when stitching without a stand. That American Sampler never ceases to amaze me. It's so gorgeous - and the skill to do all those different stitches, too! I'm so jealous of your magnet board, I love moving things around while making plans too! You have such a long dog sampler spree going! All the best, Kat
@Handworkmaniac

Thank You Kat!!! LOL, yep a Long Dog Spree!!! I only use my larger q-snaps when I am beading, and they are definitely more awkward without the floor stand. And I do love the wooden hoops on small ornaments that don't fit well in an 8 x 8 q-snap. And goodness, magnet boards are cheap, you should get one!!! Or may just make magnets and put them on the fridge door!! Our front door and back doors are also made of metal and my grandkids put magnets on them as well.

Hi Brenda, Thanks for 2 years of Flosstube videos. I've enjoyed them all, and I've shared your video about your stands and how you load a Q Snap countless times, paying it forward in thanks for the first time I watched it. Back then I was having trouble with my own Q Snaps slipping, and it helped me quite a bit. I'm wondering if you're aware of any FaceBook groups that are about posting our monthly rotation/goals, and reporting our progress. I'm not looking for prompts and accountability (challenge groups) in 2021 because I want to focus on specific WIPs I'm looking to finish (with a few starts), and don't want to have to fit my plans into the prompts. I'm looking for stitchers like me, who have a plan, and want some outside encouragement to keep our motivation strong. Any ideas?
@Handworkmaniac

That sounds like a great plan!! I love that you are trying to get some projects done. I don't know of any off the top of my head. You could do a search for "cross stitch group rotation" or something like that. Or maybe you should start your own group!! I bet there are others out there who would be interested. I will try and remember to ask on my next video and see if anyone knows of any already out there :)

I have ordered the City of Romance and Star of Wonder charts. When they arrive I'll haul them down the rabbit hole to join all the rest I've purchased recently. I am getting so excited about Stitch Maynia and have earmarked some possibilities for that. As my birthday is the 21st May I've chosen a piece to start for that date. Also, here in Shetland on the last Tuesday in January the islands celebrate an occasion called Up-Helly-AA. This is a festival to mark the end of winter and the evening culminates in burning a hand constructed Viking longship . Well, guess what! Yes, I've found a lovely longship chart which I'll start on 26th January. I'm hoping my hubby is going to buy me the 'Pandemic' chart for Christmas which I'll start on the 1st of January. See what you've started???? Only kidding!! Look forward to your next video.

How did/do you get A Stitching Shelf into a qsnap? Especially when you were starting the project. I'm working on that one and I've had to stop because I can't seem to get it into my qsnap without it making things wonky and I'm afraid it's going to damage the piece. I'm only like 500 stitches in on it but I really want to work on it. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!
@Handworkmaniac
3 жыл бұрын
HI Rae! So happy to hear from someone else who is working on that gorgeous piece :) I'm thinking you are maybe asking about how I deal with the large piece of fabric in my q-snaps? Mine is one 25 ct evenweave, and I am doing 1 over 1. And I am using 11 x 11 q-snaps. I would definitely use your oldest q-snaps that have the loosest stretched out clip pieces. New ones will be harder, but still doable. I find that I can fold my fabric over twice, at a maximum, before it is too thick and cracks the clip piece. Right now I my piece is still fairly small and the stitching is all centered in the top right of my stitching area. So I can fold the fabric a little further over into the stitching area on the left and bottom, than I normally would. I take the far left edge of the fabric and fold it in half so the edge is overlapping about an inch onto the stitching area. Then I take the far left folded edge and fold that in half again and line it up with the first one and then put the clip on over it. That still leaves about 3 inches of the folded layers hanging off the left edge, which does not get in my way right now because my stitching is all over on the right hand side of the stitching area. But if it gets in my way later, I will just put some "quilting peels" to hold it over the clip and out of the way. I do the same process for the bottom edge. When I get to the point where I am folding stitched areas under the clip, the fabric will be a lot thicker, and I will probably only be able to fold it over once. So I will have to use the quilting peels on all the folded over edges. Although my daughter Catherine was able to fold her stitched parts over twice on her James Christensen HAED the whole time. But I think her q-snap clips were way stretched out by then. Clear as mud? LOL

So excited to see your post this morning! Happy 2 year Anniversary! Think I found you in February and haven’t missed any of your utubes since, went back to see all of yours since #1...some several times! I really enjoyed seeing your progress, realized I’ve made progress too on things you inspired, like my Stitching Shelf and the Sam Sarah Calendar. I’m using your ideas on organizing with the magnet board and am just now realizing it would be awesome to make pictures! I’ve decided to take a picture and make a 4X6 print every 3 months to show progress...then keep them in an album?! My mind seems to work like yours and I love the order and flexibility to keep track and move them around! You have inspired me so much and bring such positive joy! Will look forward to your next utube!!! Again Happy Anniversay! Hope to see you for MANY years to come!

Brenda, my guardian angel, I'm so sorry but it's me again. As a relatively new stitcher I am trying to find out where in the groove down the rabbit hole I comfortably sit. I thought I'd be best with a hoop but I've just tried stitching in hand and have made double the progress that way. However, that squishes up the fabric and I'm not so happy about that. I do believe your daughter Catherine said she stitches in hand. Maybe she would help me with this as someone else said it's not good practise to iron or press cross stitch. H-H-H-h-h---h---e-----e------l-------pppppp!!!!

Hi Kate!!! I am so glad you are trying all the different ways to see what works for you, good idea!!! Both of my daughters always use a q-snap, and so do I. None of us like stitching in hand, so I am a terrible resource for that, lol. But I know a lot of stitchers love to stitch that way. There is a flosstube channel "Stitchin Mommy" and she does all of her stitching in hand. She likes to have the fabric all neatly rolled up in her hand. I am pretty sure "Jan Hicks Creates" also stitches in hand. Maybe they have an older video where they show how they hold it. Good luck!!

Hi Brenda - I really enjoyed your video today and seeing how you work your rotation. My process is much less involved, but only because my brain couldn’t handle so many WIPs going at once! I stitch at 3 times each day - in the morning (30 minutes on days I watch my granddaughter, 1-2 hours on the other days), when my granddaughter naps, and in the evening if I can stay awake, lol! So in the morning for the first part of the month, I work on a small, usually seasonal project. Once that’s finished, I work on two long-term projects, alternating a week on each. While my granddaughter naps, I stitch on the Linens and Threads SAL, and in the evening, I stitch on the same project I worked on in the morning. So basically, two WIPs per day. I do have three other WIPs that I’m not actively working on - they taunt me - wanting to be worked on. I may try something a little more like your rotation next year so I can actively be working on those other WIPs, lol. Have a wonderful couple of weeks.

Happy Flossaversary Brenda. Fun video. I watch probably All those flosstubes and more! For one who doesn't make videos I watch alot! I will look up the 2 youtubes you mentioned that aren't xs. I watch a lot of you tube thats not xs. I watch mortition ones🤪they showed up and I was curious actually very interesting. And a couple from Japan like simple life in Japan very interesting. So of the floss felt holders which one did you like best? I'd like one maybe the flat one med. Size or one that folded and hooked? I have one of the dmc floss cards books I use it alot.even sometimes 123 will say fabric resembles this color floss very very handy I use it all the time. This turned out long.....

Good evening Brenda, wonderful accomplishment on reaching 2 years on flosstube. I live vicariously through you with your variety of WIPS. I stitch a lot, but it is usually on one project at a time. I, too, stitch for the love of the process. I think Pandemic will be started soon. When you use the sulky blended thread do you stitch one x at a time? Becky C ( your stitch twin)
@Handworkmaniac

Hi Stitch Twin Becky!!! And happy to hear from another process stitcher :) Which makes sense since we are stitch twins, lol. Yes, I cross one x at a time when I use any variegated thread, because I love the variation in the colors to show up. You can do it the other way where you go all the way down the row and then cross when you come back, it is still beautiful, it will just be a different kind of a "tweedy" look. Do whatever you like the best :)

Happy Sunday Brenda! I am watching your channel while I stitch because I really enjoy your content. I have made it to is #30 and you were working on Morning has Broken and you mentioned that it is all specialty stitches. For a beginner do you believe a piece like the twist band sampler is a good starting point for learning specialty stitches? Or a piece like Morning has Broken? If not, do you have any suggestions? Love your channel
@Handworkmaniac
3 жыл бұрын
Thank You Mary!! Yes, I think Twisted Band Sampler would be a great way to learn specialty stitches. It is very large, and will take a while, but it has a LOT of different specialty stitches you could learn. The diagrams are excellent and show you exactly how to do them. The designer "Drawn Thread" patterns also usually have a few specialty stitches in each pattern, and are smaller if you want to just get your feet wet. The Morning Has Broken piece was a class piece and was meant to be taught in 2 or 3 day class setting. In the class the teacher goes through the whole sampler and explains anything that might be difficult, and shows you how to do each specialty stitch, and has you practice the stitches on a doodle cloth. That piece is by Catherine Theron, and you can only purchase it if you take the class from her. But taking a class like that would also be a great way to learn how to do some specialty stitches. Catherine Theron has a website (therontraditions.com) that shows her teaching schedule for the upcoming year, and I think someone said she might be doing some online classes this year. Also, you local EGA chapter, or the EGA website (EGAUSA.org) (Embroidery Guild of America) could give you information on regional and national seminars you could attend to take classes. And sometimes a local EGA chapter will pay to have a teacher come and teach a class to the local chapter.

Hi Brenda - congratulations on two years. I’ve been watching you for most of that time, so thank you very much. Did you notice that most of the pictures you showed that you want to stitch are of buildings? Interesting again to discuss the sulky thread. I have two major pieces I am doing in sulky, both on 32 count, which I am loving. And it moves along so quickly straight off the Spool.It is so frustrating that we can’t buy it in Australia, at least not the full range. My only option is 123 stitch which does not sell the large spools or the full range, and takes 5 to 7 weeks to deliver from Utah to Melbourne. It was slow even before the pandemic. The sulky variegated thread is difficult to buy without the benefit of your wonderful floss card. Some of the variegations are quite dramatic colour changes, whereas others are almost primitive like overdyed threads. Enjoy the colour chart! All the best, Kate

Oh noooooo!!! Yes, that SAL that Stacy started finally pushed me right over the edge and I started BeachComber!! LOL. Because I just really needed another WIP! But I am thoroughly enjoying it :) I recently bought a bag from you, the red one with words all over over and the extra pocket inside. I LOVE it!!!!!!! My "New Normal" piece went right in it, a few minutes after I opened it, lol. I will so definitely be showing it on my next video and will tell everyone how fabulous it is :) My friend Sharon Wurm is the one who told me about your bags. I'm so glad she did!!!

Thank You Sara! And hello neighbor!!! Isn't this a lovely Fall Saturday!! Sorry, I should have spelled the word!! It was confusing to me the first time I heard of them too. They are just called quilting "peels", and you can buy them on Amazon or anywhere that sells quilting supplies. And some cross stitch stores carry them as well. They were originally made to put around a spool of thread to keep it from unravelling I think.

Enjoyed catching up with you. Lots of beautiful stitching, loving New Normal. I have done a test swatch with the 30 weight Sulky on an undyed 20 count aida and it looks like the same coverage as 1 strand of DMC, maybe a little lighter. I typically stitch 2 strands on 14 count and 1 on 20 or 22 count. My elbow won't let me stitch 2 strands on 16 count so trying it on a higher count would not work for me so I have become less concerned with a full full coverage. I guess you wouldn't like the coverage on 20 count but maybe worth a try on something higher. I am not starting my LDS Anzac until 1st January and am waiting for my first hand dyed fabric (which may be slightly tighter) so will be able to show you more then. Enjoy your stitching. X
@Handworkmaniac
3 жыл бұрын
Thank You Caroline!!! I finally bought a spool at JoAnns the other day to try it out. I loved hearing what you thought about it. And you are smart to be nice to your elbow and just stitch with fewer strands on lower count. I would do the same in that situation :) I hope you enjoy stitching on hand dyed as much as I do, and your new start on Jan 1 sounds so fun!!

Hi Kathleen!! Yes, I have tried it on 32 ct, 36 ct, and 40ct fabric, and I really like 1 over 2 on all three counts :) I don't know of any group that gets together here in Utah County. The two guilds I used to belong to were in Salt Lake. I keep thinking someone should start a group in Utah County, but we would have to find a good public place to get together and nobody has found one yet. And with my full-time job, I just don't have the energy to start a group and be in charge of it, lol.

Love catching up with you and your WIPs Brenda ❤️❤️. I too feel like I need to finish tons of projects before the clock strikes midnight on January 1st. Why? 🤷♀️. But the end of the year I want finishes. I call it finish it November and December. I need to try sulky....I’m glad to hear you like it on 40 count. I love all the variegated color options they have but I didn’t know they had a color card. I’ll need to get one. You are motoring right along on the Stitch in Time Shelf. I have another square to finish on mine and I'll snap a pic to show you my progress. I'm liking the book bindings and next row should reveal what one is entitled. Weeee! Way to go Brenda on your new knitting shawl! I started one last year that has a border piece that you knit along the edge as you go and never having done something like that, I laid it aside. I think I can envision it much better now that a year has gone by so there is always a chance I will pick it up this winter to give it another and more informed shot. I knit socks and last year did a lot of them but stopped just short of jumping into the "Gobb Stopper." Right out of Willy Wonka for sure! I'm very hopeful of doing a pair this year and if I get 'em done, I will definitely send you a funny picture. :) Best wishes on your great success with your triangle shawl and my it be just the thing at school.

Someone finally called in and guessed it--it was a school bus door opening!!!!!! I laughed and laughed.
