Hip hop actually predates reggae by at least 2 decades thst we know of, most music starts with the people at the bottom but ends up becoming mainstream where its labeled sold and monopolised, language changes over time so music that was called one thing ends up being named something else but remains moslty the same, look at the jubilaires, they are basically one of the first rap groups, the style of music they did would have been called hip hop if they had been around when that phrase was coined

This is ridiculous, was it those seven words that sold the her album, how would she have known it was him who came up with those seven words as loads of reggae artist have used them. If it was a full song then yes but not a few words.

Her writers wrote the song. And they are from the carribean. So most likely they knew.

Her net worth was actually over 300 million and when he sued her, she had to settle for half her net worth. She is now worth 160 million because of this!! Big up Jamaica🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🔥🔥🔥

@@vincegranados6486 I actually think I'm wrong! I mixed her up with Taylor Swift, whose net worth is actually well over 500 million!! Miley Cyrus has a net worth of 160 million or so. So I'm sure Flourgan did get something nice💰 but not near the 300 million he was asking for!

Misleading title. The lawsuit was for $300M USD. The settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. Settlements are usually just a fraction of the amount requested in court

Cover or not there's something call copy rights law that governs (ip) intellectual property even if used as goodwill... My Search Results Is it Legality of cover songs? Cover song videos are NOT protected by a mechanical license. “Published” under the Copyright Act is defined as: In order to distribute and sell your own version of that cover song, you have to secure what is know as a mechanical license from the publisher of the song, and pay them the appropriate mechanical royalties (Sited)

I always thought about that when I was a kid and was told other cultures can sing over songs if its considered a different language spanish and even arabs are singing over reggae and they cannot be suit. We don't understand what they say so they do it for their culture.
