In this video, originally released at Reframing Autism’s 2021 Symposium on Autistic Flourishing: Acceptance, Authenticity, Autonomy, nonspeaking Autistic advocate Tim Chan reflects on some of his experiences post school. He discusses how others have responded to his diverse communication, some with acceptance, others with a clear lack of acceptance. Tim emphasises the importance of having a reliable communication method and shares a little of his journey with facilitated communication. Finally, he explains the role of the neurodiversity movement in helping his embrace his differences and that self-acceptance, together with authenticity and autonomy, is bringing him closer to flourishing.
