Spalding, Lincolnshire.
Several shots of tulips growing in fields in Spalding. We then see various floats of different shapes covered in tulip heads for a flower parade; people put the finishing touches to floats that are gathered in a field prior to the carnival.
M/S of a marching band coming along the road towards us; people are crowded either side of the road. Various shots of the floats moving along the carnival route including one shaped like a train, another carries Miss Tulipland, a fairy tale coach and horses (all made from flower heads), a model of the Tower of London, a (real) woman riding a huge (flowered) horse. Footage of the procession is intercut with shots of the crowd.
My favourite is in the shape of a huge octopus, surrounded by mermaids (real) and flowered goldfish and with some kind of Tulip Queen sitting on the top. Another good one has huge tomatoes (?) on wheels, with people dressed as daffodils sitting on them. Help - I'm admiring Spalding flower floats!
Note: there is a letter on file about the filming of this story. Cuts exist - see separate record.
