Nice review. The sound is very nice but it's from an upgraded cartridge. It would have been helpful to be able to compare it to the cartridge that came with the TT. Having to change the wires to prevent hum concerns me. I would not expect that from a very good turntable. Thank you for the video.

I recommend buying several genuine stylus's and store them in a cool dry place. If you can, store them sealed them under dry nitrogen. Easy to do: Find a small glass jar with a sealable cap (ex-sauce/food jar), place unopened stylus package inside, fill with dry nitrogen - get it in small cans) and close the jar.

Wow, a turntable that comes with it’s own dust cover with metal hinges, is quiet and steady, solidly built, has speed selector switch and a way to fine tune the speeds, no fishing line parts, and not $3000 - what a concept!

Great video. I commented on your unboxing video as well - I have had my Fluance RT-81 for a year now. I agree with everything you said here - the only things I will say is that my RT-81 was spot on with RPM's at both 33.33 and 45 right out of the box but after about 9 months or so I started noticing it was off and was running too fast. I clocked it at 34.10 with my RPM app and I had to adjust the speed back down with the speed adjustment screw accessed from the underside of the turntable - the instructions on how to do that are not very clear but I just needed the correct size screwdriver - and the adjustments are micro-adjustments and very sensitive. The other thing I would say, and it may not be that important, but several respected people in the turntable community recommend not touching your belt with your fingers so you do not transfer any oils from your fingers to the belt as it *could* affect the belt and speed. This is why they used to always use talc to lightly dust and coat the rubber turntable belt...they say it improved speed stability especially at startup and stopping. I do not coat my belt though...seems a bit esoteric. I appreciate your cartridge recommendation as I want to get off of the AT95 platform and get an upgrade for sure. And now you've also helped me realize I need better cables than the starter ones that came with the RT-81. I am glad you did this review because there isn't much out there on this wonderful turntable.

Mine got a little bit faster in the first two months (around 2% faster), nothing really major or noticeable to my ears. I was keeping tracking of this for additional 1,5 month and then I decided to adjust the speed for the proper revolutions. Since them it has been spot on. I've never had any other issue whatsoever. Just sharing my experience with it. Cheers!

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this little belt-driven deck after owning a pair of direct drive Technics SL-1210 Mk2's but I must admit after trying it out for a month and thought about parting with it after that...I've fallen in love with it and made the decision to keep it for the spare bedroom. It's a lovely solid turntable and plays everything without skipping. Set up was easy and straightforward. The sound quality is amazing even though I've changed to a felt mat and changed the cartridge over to a hi-fi grade Concorde, it plays really well. I haven't got the heart to sell it or part with it, mine forever.

Very thorough review, thank you. I currently own a Sony PS-LX300 turntable that I bought about a year and a half ago when I first wanted to get into the hobby. But now I really want to upgrade my turntable, and invest in a preamp and a decent cartridge. Before this video, I was eyeing the TEAC TN-400S. It's a very simple and elegant looking turntable, but it also retails for about $600 Canadian. This Fluance turntable has a very similar look to it, and after watching your review, I'm impressed at how much thought went into the design of this turntable, and how solid it seems to be, especially for that price point! I'm also really happy to hear that the sound quality is great, and that the speed rotation accuracy is just about perfect. I was honestly fully convinced that I was going to upgrade to that TEAC TN-400S, and all I needed to do was save a little more money before I could afford it, but after watching your review, you've really gotten me thinking about this turntable. I love the design, the build quality looks to be absolutely solid, the sound is great, and it's half the cost of the TEAC I wanted.

Since my first review below, I've been playing some of the heaviest dance tracks with the RT81 and it really has impressed me with the way it handles Deep House, Hard House and Trance as well as Industrial Techno. It's not a DJ turntable.... that we know, but it is a solid and very well made deck even though it is belt driven and not direct drive. It tracks well and doesn't jump or skip. Some of the heavy rhythms and basslines have caused the Audio Technica to skip but not on the Fluance. It's a beautiful turntable and a lot of people will benefit from this and it's budget pricetag.

I used to own an RT-81 and I found that the platter was the limiting aspect of it. I could hear motor noise and some resonance from the platter. It looks like yours is working better. Hi, I would like to say you are a breath fresh air and have a practical approach to music listening, but I think is that one needs experience, luck and some idea of what it is they want. For me I just want to listen to music on a reasonable and modest, home system. I didn't set a budget, but prepared to learn and spend what I needed to spend to get a decent system. I ended up spending £15, 000 for a very cheap and capable hi-fi system, Some things where cheap, some second-hand, some times just down to pure luck, mistakes and patience. The reason why I ended up spending much money is speakers. Half way through, I decided to build two systems. By far the most expensive components is the DIY speakers, between £1,500 and 2,000. But boy, both systems have more than surpassed my greatest expectations. I would not like to put through this kind of stress, because when your spending so much on a very low income would seem crazy.
