Very nice @NorCal715. A $400 meter repaired with a ten cent part. Fluke would have charged at least $100 for that repair. I have to replace $1000 circuit boards likely because of a ten cent part failure. I hate the fact that I don't have the brains to fix many circuit boards and have to bill my customers for board replacements.

Precision laser trimmed ceramic resistor arrays are not ten cents a pop.

Labor costs + precision resistor divider would probably legitimately add up to $100 lol. That resistor divider could possibly be the most expensive part on the board.

Those resistor networks are designed to handle in excess of 1000V, you can probably buy a replacement, hey will be Caddock brand.

Hopefully you will get a high voltage resistor, or at least 2 4M7 in series, with a lower value to adjust up the resistance, because otherwise you really should not subject that little 0.25W resistor to more than 125VAC as it might flash over. I was thinking at first the input 1k resistor was open circuit, a common fault, but the ceramic divider is not a common thing to have fail, just guess it was dropped exactly the wrong way.

I don't plan on ever using this meter over 120vac so I think it will be fine. That thought had crossed my mind also. I had to try about 20 different values before I found one that was that accurate. The difference between .995m and 1.002m was a deal breaker. Maybe one day I will replace it with a couple of precision 5 megs or (4)2.5 megs thanks for watching.

Hi! I ran into a broken fluke 87 that isn’t reading resistance or diode mode well. Diode is showing around 2v when not connected and ohm showing around 320. Any thoughts? I’ve check the input side and all checks out. I need to look into the diode voltage supply next. Thanks!

Nice work! Looks like u know your job. I have a Fluke 15B (which i recently hacked to be sort of 17b), which has some continuity issue. One day after batt swich routine i had a leak, but nothing that serious (some corrosion on terminals meter itself + and in batt shell), but i wiped and brushed it clean, checked pcb solder pads and so on, all good. When i set it on beeper and short test leads i have ridiculous 380 ohm resistance, and while i'm holding leads together it started to drop, but sloooowly. I have a spare crocodile clamp probe, short it together and let them hang for a while. After a minute or so, i started to hear a beep, so does resistance drops to 78, started weak buzz and solid after a little while (i know a solid beep on 40 ohms according to calibration manual). After de-clamping and testing, everything become somewhat normal, and even after re-switching to other modes, but still over 40 ohms. /*EDIT - after turning meter off and back on after minute or two, issue starts again */. My original leads long gone, i am using relatively cheap ones, it does the job (uni-t's, but looks phony af)), it was like 1.5 ohm probe resistance or so, can't remember. I love my meter, it was a gift and really need to fix it normal again. I am a service engineer, so any advices, like replace smd elements, can be appreciated. Problem is, i don't have another multimeter to help me fix mine, and really scary to mess with it by myself, without some guidance. By the way, it's full of trimpots, may be cell leaks under one of them without any signs of cause, or maybe dry cap... no idea. Please help ^.^

@@norcal715 I figured out what happened tomorrow. My guess about wrong current flow was right. Ok, so we have two batt terminals. Positive one, even though it looks completely alright, after de-soldering i notice it started to become....umm dunno how to say.... rotten solder pad, ha. I rework it with heating gun and solder pad was like a sponge, bubbling all the surface. Fluke quality of soldering components un-judgably good, but terminals - it has a blob on outer side, so it wasn't noticeable at first glance.

Thank you Sr For 1 more very detail video .Mr nor cal 715 I have a question for you. Am a little confused about how to use my pr-57 my question is do I need to disconnect the ground terminal on my pr-57 to be safe or do I have to use an adapter 3 to2. If am working on a device that have a 3 prongs cord on it? Again tank you for all your very good videos.
@buildstoys

Disconnecting the ground from the output on this model isn't enough as the metal clip that holds the outlet in place bonds to the chassis (and ground). Probably easier to use a 3 to 2 prong adapter, especially if you want to ever use the leakage detection functionality.

And that's what am going to do use a 3 to 2 adapter on my pr-57 . am 100% sure that a lot of people will be very happy if you whit all your experience on electronics makes a video on safety about hot chassis ,grounds and osciloscope safety .thanks again Sr.

Hi! Awesome video! I have a Fluke 324 clamp meter which I mistakenly connected to 230Vac while on continuity mode, and it now sometimes beeps weird to indicate continuity... I mean it doesn't make the normal beeping noise but rather a weird one.. any clues to what it might have wrong? I called Fluke but they told me that they wouldn't repair it and that I should buy a new one, which I can't afford. Also great video! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Not to be too pedantic, but where you said 1 or 2 percent a little past 8 minutes in, that would be 1 or 2 tenths of a percent. This would seem to be within, or at least on the edge, of the specification for that range which is +/- (0.05 % + 1).
