Fly fishing for bluegill and bass with a popper fly was absolutely slaying fish! The largemouth bass hit first followed by endless bluegill. Fly fishing bluegill (or fly fishing panfish in general) is easy! Cast it out and let it sit. After 5-6 seconds, give a clear and concise tug to pop the popper. A good trick is to make sure there is no slack in the line before giving it the pop. Some fish will hit on the pause and others immediately after the tug. With bluegill you do not have to use a huge hook set as these fish have tiny soft mouths and you will likely pull the popper right out. Pull the fish in and do it again! Tight lines to you all!
