Great video. Love fishing for smallmouth but don't do a lot of fly fishing. Enjoyed all the tips throughout the video. Might have to give it a try

If you give it a try, you won't be disappointed. It is challenging, especially if you try to catch the bigger bass in a given stream. It's also simple, doesn't require a lot of gear.

Awesome video. When you are wading, how much water do you cover?

Matt, I cover up to a couple of miles in a morning. I try to hit several decent pools along the stream that I fish, and usually there is quite a walk in between them.

Thanks for the reply! That’s what I’ve found as well. I have to cover a couple miles. There are a few hot spots and a lot of water not worth spending much time on.

A trout set is where you raise the rod arm, and it doesn't work on smallmouths for the most part, especially if you have a popper out there on a long cast. The bigger bass you really have to hit hard on the hook set, so what I typically do is pull on the line with my left hand and set low to the water with a big sweep of my right arm. Sometimes I forget, and usually lose the fish.

It is actually called the Schoharie Creek here. Guess it differs in places.

@@robstreeteroutdoors8912 weird, I live up north in Maine most of our streams are generally 2-8 foot wide, creeks usually a half the size of what your fishing here. At least width

@@Nnnn-h4n It must go by where you live. I've been up in Alaska and fished creeks that were double or triple the size of the Schoharie. We hope to go back to Maine this summer. Fished there last year and did well.
