I’ve made the trip from PA to Yellowstone each of the last few years. It’s a special place with more water than you could fish in a lifetime. The hopper bit in August/September is fly fishing Nirvana!

@@BackyardBassin The meadows of Nez Perce, Slough River, Gibbon, and Lamar are my favorites. Even the Firehole and Madison are excellent places to try. Hoppers are thick in that tall grass like locusts and the trout are just waiting for one to hit the water. The guys at Gallup’s told me last year was one of the best hopper bites ever on the Madison. Pink colored hoppers were the hot ticket.

I started doing family vacations out there and fell in love with the sport of fly fishing. A lot of familiar views so I can’t wait to go back this summer. The backdrop in the videos is amazing and I don’t think you can beat the experience. You earned a subscriber from our channel. Great video!

@@BackyardBassin ..yes it was. It was with Campus Crusade for Christ. I was on staff with them. A very special time of my life. Firehole was the first river I caught a Trout using a fly rod. I bought one before I went out west and fished with it for the first time on the Firehole.

As a guy who lives in Wyoming, this is a fun watch, and fun to see someone from back east come all this way and have success on the rivers they've read about! I'm not much of a fly fisherman, but this is still an exciting and cool watch! I look forward to seeing where else you head on this trip!

I grew up fishing in the Gulf, streams and rivers, but I've never fly fished. Can you fish with a lure or spinner with the same results or should I learn to fly fish before heading that way?
@BackyardBassin
2 жыл бұрын
I think that under certain conditions you could achieve the same results, but I think that all-around fly fishing would allow you to be more versatile for a variety of conditions and help you to catch the trout on their terms. There is a lot of good content on the advantages of fly fishing over conventional tackle for trout fishing on the blog Trout-Bitten.

I have been to yellowstone way back when i was a young kid......way before i ever knew anything about fly fishing. My question is since its all a national park can u fish anywhere? Say ur driving along and see a small stream u wanna try fishing can u just pull over and park and walk and fish anywhere u please?
@BackyardBassin
3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Correct, you can fish anywhere in the park with a license unless there is a specific notice that you cannot fish that stream or section of stream. Occasionally they shut down places due to bear activity, whirling disease, and different things like that. But basically you can fish 99% of the water there. Hope this helps!

You can fish the Firehole River when the Park opens in late-May. And what ever lakes are iced out in June. But the good stream fishing doesn't start until after runoff mid-to-late July...with the best (most uncrowded) fishing mid-to-late September
