Thank you very much for the video on the Robin DR400. Very professional in every way. I’m a US pilot, and had the pleasure of flying the DR400 out of the Annemasse Aerodrome over two days in 2017. A beautifully engineered aircraft. It was my first experience of mountain flying. My instructor was a retired French Air Force pilot that made the experience unforgettable. The view of Mont Blanc from the canopy of the Robin DR400 was spectacular. All the best to you in 2022. Dennis Keuper

I flew my first 45 hours in a Robin HR200. Fantastic trainer aircraft, very forgiving and predictable. I could have chosen the C172 or C150 to train in but the low wing and centre stick appealed more to my inner Spitfire pilot.. I have since had the privilege of throwing a 2160 around the skies. I will always have a soft spot for these aircraft.

I was just ouside and heard unfamiliar sound so I looked up and there was small plane crossing the sky. Just by curiosity I opened Flightradar and found out it was a Robin DR40. Never heard of it. And that's how I ended up here.... Great video! Best wishes from Pilsen, Czech republic!🇨🇿🍻🇨🇭

Great Video. I normally fly the C172 with the IO360 and recently got the chance to fly the DR401 from another flying Club. The CD155 with the fadec and constant speed prop is the ideal engine for this plane. Feels So powerful.

Thank you for this beautiful video. I am a fan of Robin aircrafts, the history, and everything. No active aviator, apart from flying a Capitaine, a Petit Prince, a Dauphin, a Cadet, and mostly the DR.400/180 Régent in MSFS. But I had some glider training when I was young, and there was a Remo at the field... that's how it all started. ;) Being a guitarist myselft, I can totally relate to the feeling of playing, of tuning in with the instrument. A nice analogy to flying planes, especially wooden ones. I just came across your channel.. I subscribed and am looking forward to more videos. Many happy landings from Berlin!

As far as small 4 seat low wing aircraft go, Ive always thought that the Robin was aesthetically about the best looking machine out there, something about the way the canopy works and the dihedral in the outboard section of the wings, just does it for me.

The DR401/CD155 is a great combination. The choice of Garmin avionics is good but the lack of an STC for the GFC500 is a significant omission. The only autopilot available is the antiquated analogue STEC which is both expensive and gives poor performance. Since I bought my DR401 back in 2018 I have been asking Robin to get the GFC500 approved but they seem to be leaving this on the back burner. In my view making the GFC500 available is far more important than messing around with turbine power which uses 25-40% more fuel.
@ASWISSPILOT
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Couldn‘t agree more, the STEC AP is not nearly as good as Garmin‘s Autopilots. Getting an STC for a new model is however incredibly expensive and Garmin will only spend this money if the model is very popular on the used airplane market. And Robin‘s only exist on the European market… So not too interesting for Garmin. And I‘d guess Robin doesn‘t want to or can‘t invest this amount of money either… 🙁
@nigelcharles511

@@ASWISSPILOT Whilst an STC is expensive Robin have managed to get around this problem to fit other Garmin kit. As well as encouraging future aircraft sales there will be many of us who would be keen to retrofit a GFC500. I had a removable blank fitted to my panel and cable pull throughs put in place during manufacture to make autopilot fitting easier later. If we had a list of potential Robin customers for the GFC500 it might persuade Robin to do something about this. They can only continue with the STEC for so much longer and to not have an autopilot option at all will badly affect their sales in the more distant future.

Hi, Nigel, the problem is that Garmin have insisted on doing any STC themselves and they have to see a return on their investment (around €500k) within the life-time of the product, which is unlikely given the number of A/Ps that Robin have been fitting. There is, however both a prospect of FAA approval for Robin (Brazilian approval is already in place and there is some reciprocity with the FAA), which could lead to inclusion on the Garmin AML, and Garmin introducing a version of their AML for EASA aircraft. I believe that the latter is already underway, although I don't know how far down Robin is on the list.

The usefull load of the Diamiond DA 40 NG is 407 kg. GFC 700 and DME ads 14 kg - but that's it. 393 kg usefull. And the Austro diesel is heavier than the CD-155. The trick is Diamond certified the NG to MTOM 1310 kg compared to the AV-gas versions 1200 kg.

"the Austro diesel is heavier than the CD-155" Why ? What are the differences between them ? They are based on the same engine...
@pretavol

They are based on the same engine design but the Austro diesel has a cast iron crankcase and cylinder block, whereas the Continental 155CDI engine is all aluminium alloy. The manufacturer's figures are 186 kg dry for the Austro and 134 kg dry for the Continental.@@vzmax

Thanks for your comment! Price will be somewhere between 250-450 k € depending on options. You‘ll find all the specs on Robin‘s website: robin-aircraft.com
Always interested in this model of plane and I think it age really well even today. Coming from a Piper Cherokee, even I understand this is a better performing design, 155cv/hp is really barely enough for a 4 seater (since loaded weight are the same for both), you really need 180hp. Unless power delivery of the jet/diesel engine is different than avgas? How much is the pricing of this plane? A Diamond DA40 have better specs and is a more modern design, only if the Robin have advantage in pricing.

Hi! Thanks for your comment! The Continental CD155 (155hp, turbocharged) outperforms the Lycoming IO-360 (180hp, non-turbo) in most situations. Compare the specs of a C172S to the C172JT-A as an example. The Robin is indeed cheaper than a DA40NG, provides better useful load and better Take-Off and Landing performance 😉
@wckoek
2 жыл бұрын
@@ASWISSPILOT that would be very nice, too bad there aren't a lot of used ones in the market, you have to go new. I think by specs it is better than Cirrus SR20, not as good as 22 or DA40 except load in the latter case as you point out. It would be attractive if it is same price or lower than 20. CD155 is better than 360 is interesting since I never fly a diesel before, in which area you think is not as good?
@pretavol
9 ай бұрын
The 155CDI produces more power at the propeller than the carburreted 180 hp Lycoming engine from 4,000 feet AMSL. The 155CDI also retains power better at altitude with a ceiling of 16,500 feet. The155 hp diesel engine also has a lot more torque than the 180 hp Lycoming that, in combination with the automatic constant speed propeller, explains the diesel's superior take-off performance.

Things are not always what they seem. CEAPR, who own the land, the buildings, the Type Certificates, the Design Office, make most of the components and have the same CEO, have hired back half of the Robin Aircraft craftsmen and have put them to work.

Production of both Robin and CAP aircraft restarted in December 2023.. CEAPR re-hired half of the workforce of the Robin Aircraft company and resumed production of both new and re-manufactured Robin and CAP aircraft. CEAPR has been operating for over sixty years. Its core business is design and approvals, parts manufacture and maintenance. CEAPR owns the land and the buildings at its facility in Darois, as well as the Robin and CAP Type Certificates and the Robin Aircraft name. CEAPR have APDOA, Part CAO, Part 21G and it makes or buys all of the components for Robin and CAP aircraft.
