A demonstration and a tad bit of history on, the zhua, or clawed, weapon. Always declared to be a part of the kung fu soft weapon family alongside the rope dart, meteor hammer and chain whip, the fei zhua (flying claws) are a less explored weapon that I feel deserves a closer look.
Here I use my ten years of soft weapons training to explore the possibilities of such a tool.
What we can gather is that zhua mounted upon staves were a thing in history, and those could be what inspired a rope-mounted variant.
Also, to state the obvious, it would sure suck to be snagged by one!
