another quick tip for the sp compression, you can turn the ctrl2 to adjust release time by enabling the limit function (hold function and press pad 8) this will turn ctrl2 in release. If u put your drums at about 10dB louder and add compression you will get the ducking effect.

Just the other day I was thinking, a Flying Lotus Technique series would make my dreams come true. Plus you brought out Supreme! Thank you so much for this :D First beat that comes to my head when I think Flying Lotus is either "Turtles" from "You're Dead", Captain Murphy "Immaculation" or Jeremiah Jae- "Cat Fight". There's so many sides to FlyLo.

Sp404sx can change the compression by pressing Func and pad 8 (effect limit), then choose on or off with knob 3 and hit rec to save the setting. Compression is different with each, I think there's more of a sidechain type with effect limit 'on'.

Effect limit off and ctrl knob 2 controls sustain.. this comp setting often results in a clipped initial hit until the comp levels out and can be quite harsh unless the sustain is knocked back to 50-75%. Effect limit on and ctrl 2 changes to 'release' and results in a much smoother, more musical comp effect generally :)

You might already know this trick. On one pad, record your beat with only the kick and the snare at a normal volume, and the sample very low. When you apply the compression to that pad, the sample will be much higher except when the kick and snare hit. It gives you that sidechain compression effect. Not sure I explained it very well...lol
@leenoyes
7 жыл бұрын
"Side-chain-like" - exactly! When you do this the compression is being applied to both the drums and sample together, so between drum hits the comp is boosting the volume of the sample... exactly the opposite of side-chain, where the comp is applied separately to the sample and 'chained' to drums so the sample drops out when the drums hit... you can't do true side-chain on a 404, but the 404 does what it does (and the 303 does it even better!)
