How old are they? As I have 2 horses that are almost 3 years old. I just wanted to know when is the right time to introduce them to jumps (we have done trot poles)

Usually your supposed to introduce jumps to a horse when it's fully developed (as the leg muscles are growing and developing) , which they are fully developed at age 5 , when they are 5 Usually start with small x's then tiny verticals to build up leg strength as landing is hard on their feet , but with strengthening them up it gets less hard on the legs , and trot and canter polls for them and learning the basics is the best to teach so when they do jump they are used to aids.

@toosknegt4243

These yearlings are bred to jump.Not just any horse ! And don't worry they do this for fun and certainly not on a regular base. Have you ever seen how big jumps they make in the field just playing and bucking ,this little crossfence with very lightweight poles is just another jump for joy ! They are 6 years old now and we have waited them to be backed untill they were 4 ! And yes they are incredible showjumpers now as they showed at young age and they are sound and happy!
@biancawheeler270

toos knegt I don’t feel like arguing, you can believe what you believe and I’ll believe what I believe. A horse can not support its weight and the riders weight on just two legs, it’s very hard on their legs. Horses are not “bred” to jump, if anything they would rather not jump
@meangcrls
6 жыл бұрын
Actually, most horse breeds commonly used for jumping have been selectively bred to jump. Horses are very different from what they use to be due to selective breeding. This is how most breeds have come to be. Believe it or not, they are bred to jump ;)
