Sorry Guys but ive done around 40 head gaskets on these engines and thats being conservative! Im a Ford Engineer of 28 years and its 90% Head gasket issues at first and you must service the engines at required intervals as well as warm engine up first before giving full boost! If you replace the head always skim first as heads tend to warp easily. I see so many of these cars with the owner saying cracked liner although it happens its very rare and I would say out of 100 you may get 1 where the car has been thrashed out of its life and 99 where the age of the car and the flexing of the cylinders has resulted in head gasket failure between cylinders 2 and 3 and more rarer cylinders 3 and 4. I have also seen alot of these cars where the owner thinks the turbo has blown due to smoke on over run and just after ticking over yet again its valve stem seals and not the turbo! I feel most of these cars due to the nature of them should have the cylinder head refurbished at 100,000 miles with new gasket, Valve stem seals along with skim and pressure test. Please use a quality head gasket when reassembling and the car will run brilliantly for another 100,000 miles if its serviced regulary and not thrashed before warm up!

Thanks for the info, seems like for another 25k I should enjoy ST before refurbishment. How about pops and bangs ??
@tracieoliver2307

@@victorstoulm3356 Pops and bangs are a catalytic converter killer as its basically an over run map allowing more fuel to be injected into the engine when the throttle has been released! If you are running a decat on your car then beware as lots of pops and bangs will result in the owner being pulled over by the Police for a spot check as the emission levels must be way out of tune lol and if its found that you are running no cat on the car you will be fined heavily as for the damage to the car the pops and bangs will eventually burn the valves out and place undue stress on the car !

The block warps as much as the head on these so if a headgasket goes the block must be checked also especially if it has a history of overheating barum.engines did a interesting video on the subject here on you tube

What I can say is that it’s definitely not as much as 280 ish because the turbo gauge would be off the chart as soon as you put the power down. Only remaining about half way which it is stock. But still great

The RS certainly does have the issue, to a lesser extent. The block was slightly revised, but it still happens.

Hi bud my brother is having a problem with is one it is in limp mode and the abs light is on do u know what it could be?
@Beethoven2949

you need to pull out the dash and re solder the pins, trust me I had limp mode and this solves it permanently, the year they made this car ford switched to lead free solder which tends to crack over time
