6:40 - Wow, that makes sense. Thanks for this great explanation. What type of focusing lens did you get? Do you need to calculate which anamorphic prisms and focusing lens needed before buying? If so what are the calculations?

one reason why the retail blue diode engraving laser systems have retangular spot shapes is that they are not truly "beam combined". in these systems, the term used is "Knife edging" and its *not* the same approach as the coherent or spectral beam combination that is used in the "serious" technial laser designs in commecrial systems (commonly used in Fiber-Pump modules, eg see the IPG photonics website, where they have images of de lidded modules showing their internal optical setups) essentially the rectangular beam is created when multiple beams *DO NOT* follow the same perfectly co-axial path/alignment, and actually allign *slightly* off-center, spaced laterally relative to each other (in addition to a "dumb" aperture that may be filtering as well) to the naked eye, these arrangements can appear to be similar or identical. a few of the stage laser ompanies have diagrams explaining the whole "smeared out" imperfect overlap "Knife edging" approach

Singlemode diode and multimode diode, the problem of multimode, to obtain high power they put several diodes next to each other, which gives a line by focusing, and this is why we mount prisms at the output to rectify the beams, a single-mode dvd burner diode which is about 300mw has a round beam called TEM 0

Explain more, that shyt don't make any sense. What is single-mode and multi-mode on laser diodes and why does this has anything to do with the focal point precision of a laser beam?

did you get the prism made just for this application? or can you get them at any retailer? I mean, how do you choose which prism to used that would yield the best result? this is fascinating :)

No, you can just buy anamorphic prism pairs online. I bought mine from lasertack.com which is a german company but I have seen them on eBay as well. I would make sure that the ones you get are AR coated for your wavelength otherwise you loose a lot of power due to reflections.

Hi, you can buy anamorphic prism pairs from Thorlabs, Edmund, or if you are lucky eBay. You may find some other websites that I dont know since I live in Germany.
