The Harbor of the Arctic Future in Forge of Empires
Many players asked me to explain the details of the harbor in the Arctic Future which has been added to the game end of August 2016.
Until the future era we just have a nice bay in the West. With completion of the first technology of the Arctic Future this bay suddenly contains a building site. But nothing else. You cannot use it, it is just there.
When you develop Promethium Extraction in the technology tree the building site turns into a fully function harbor for a single ship, that you can send to the Arctic again and again to fetch promethium, a sort of very efficient fuel. You will need Promethium for many of the new technologies of the Arctic Future.
For each expedition to the Arctic the ship needs a crew. The crew will be paid with goods of the Arctic Future. You must have three crew members. Without them the ship cannot start. This results in costs of 75 goods for each start.
The crew members have different skills. Some make the trip last longer, others increase the amount of promethium etc.
As I always was short on goods at the very beginning of the Arctic Future, I did not care if a journey of 24 hours might last a bit longer. For me it was more interesting that the ship returns with as much promethium as possible. I picked the crew members accordingly. With a complete crew the ship can start.
A bit more than 24 hours later the ship returns. The amount of my promethium I can see in my inventory, but not in the market. The market only shows goods that you can trade and promethium cannot be traded. The effect is that each player has to fetch his or her own promethium and cannot receive it by trades from other players.
Once the ship is returned it got a bit damaged during the expedition. I immediately repair this which, you already suspected this, costs goods. This time I have to pay 10 of each good of the Arctic Future, a total of 50 goods. It is highly recommended to repair a ship after each return as sending out a damaged ship will be even more expensive in the end.
After repair the ship needs another crew. To hire them I pay another 75 goods. If I am unhappy with the presented candidates, I can shuffle those positions who are not already hired. As soon I again have a complete crew, I can send out the ship again. The ship should always be on an expedition as it has absolutely no effect if it is inactive in the harbor.
After three expeditions I have enough promethium to complete the technology 'Combined Weapon Systems'. This technology allows me to produce one of the heavy units of the Arctic Future.
With each expedition the crew members get more experienced. After 5 times a crew member reaches the next level of experience by enabling this. This step requires 5 of each good of the Arctic Future. From now on the positive effect is even better.
The consumption of Arctic Future goods by the harbor is significantly. 75 goods every day for the crew. 50 goods every day for repairs. More goods for enhancing skills of the crew. Players should expect that the Arctic Future needs many more goods than all previous ages. Once you developed the harbor, most of the subsequent technologies require promethium. Different to previous ages most of the technologies require mainly goods from the Arctic Future.
The production of goods of the Arctic Future requires goods from the contemporary era. I recommended in various of my clips to stay longer in contemporary than in other ages. Those who used that enhanced time span to produce a huge stock of goods of the contemporary era will have less challenge in the Arctic Future. Beside that I want to emphasize that you also can receive goods from event buildings, terrace farms and tribal squares. This can help a lot, especially for covering peaks.
