My wife and myself still have a disagreement on how to fold our prayer rug. I fold top bottom. She fold side to side. Solution: we got separate prayer rugs.🤣

I know why it is a misconception from culture but I actually used to do it because I am a convert and while living in my dad's house he had a dog and I would fold my Salah rug just so the dog wouldn't walk on it, although I didn't let it in my room but just as an extra precaution to protect my Salah.

I just throw it in my bag but i rarely use my prayer rug because is a mosque on the first floor of my building and two more with in 10-15 walk and there are mosques in downtown Toronto that I can walk too as well

Honestly we don’t do it cause of the shaytaan thing. It’s more so for the respect. If we are praying in a common room for example we completely fold it because we move around and we don’t want to walk over the prayer Matt. In a dedicated room we do it halfway because of the same reason but we don’t move all that much and it can be nuisance to put down and pick up. So we fold it a bit to prevent us from walking there

The logical way to do it is to fold it vertically or the long side first and then fold it again. Folding it the shorter side folds where the feet and the forehead meet.

well you can't clean it everyday right? so you can fold it and keep the upside folded in, to not let dust settle on the furry fuzzy side we stand on. prayer mats do have standard sizes but usually mat makers don't really make them with exact measurements. there are mats with difference in a few centimeters, or even inches, or even a foot extra. some people like wider mats for some reason, some fat people might prefer wider mats, there are even small little sized mats available for children.

I love wearing my hijab!! I was worried about people giving a bad reaction, but, at least where I live in Rochester NY, most people don’t even look twice!! I think they’re beautiful, and it makes me feel good to wear it out of gratitude for all that Allah has Blessed, and continues to Bless me with! I love the way someone else described it- nurses, officers, mailmen, etc all wear uniforms, our clothing, both men and women, is our uniform of Islam! As-Salaam-Alaikum!!❤😊✌️

If I use logic, it stops anyone who steps on it from stepping with their feet on the part you place your head. So even if it is not in the Sunnah, it is still a useful practise

I’m also a revert / convert! Alhamdulilah. ♥️ I just leaned some really important parts of Salah and I realized I was doing some things that could invalidate my prayer. Search The Prophet’s Prayer Described - Assim al-Hakeem. There are a couple of videos in this series. They are AWESOME, so don’t sleep on this. Please don't do that. Keep the no. of Rakaat in your mind and never count using objects becoz unnecessary body movements are highly discouraged.

You’re not allowed to fidget with your surroundings while praying. I too struggle with focusing but what helped me is to focus on what surahs I’m reciting after the fatiha. Also, pray as if it’s your last prayer because one of them are guaranteed to be your last.

But that’s correct, @Jessi’O, the salah is formal worship, so any extra / extraneous movements that aren’t strictly prescribed (the exact movements that the prophet SAWS taught) or unavoidable (sneezing, for example) can invalidate the prayer. Saleh family teaching me I didn't even know!!!!!!! Omg I just thought we did this like a bookmark to step away for a minute and indicate we're coming back to finish praying. Something about leaving an open mat gives me ocd. Appreciate the myth busting though

I used to bookmark my prayer mat because if I took a break it just felt weird leaving it open and alone there. Until I came back I would remove the bookmark and continue to pray and yes also when I was little I used to think the shaitan will pray on it 😂

@@thetruth389 to the Prophet saw was revealed: "There is no compulsion in Islam". Hijab, and everything you do in Islam, has to be done out of love for Allah, and doing something like wearing the hijab because you are forced to do it makes it invalid

This commonly done at homes in Pakistan. More of a cultural thing. I think it started as a practice to let others know the prayer mat is taken but all desi households would know we have heard all sorts of things 🙂

Each person has their own prayer mat. You can pray as a family, and it is more family-time-like to do so, but because of mismatching timetables and for privacy (im case someone wants to be very intimate while praying and fully let their feelings out) you often pray alone (also to avoid distractions).

I do this as well. I also have a knife in front of it when praying. After prayer I fold it just like that and leave it like that for my next prayer. I do not know why I do it, mybdad used to do it, I do not know why he did it 🤣
