Note how she goes up in the lyrics, but manages to cover it pretty well. This early on in her run, few familiar with the song as much as now, a song for which she set the gold standard.

She's got a really gorgeous voice. Getting major Liz Taylor meets Joan Crawford vibes. She'd have been a great Norma Desmond

How exciting it is to see Yvonne DeCarlo introducing this classic song to the world for the first time. The nuance in her brilliant performance captures all the glamour, all the bitterness, all the power, all the wit, and all the intelligence of this wonderful song. And then, to have the lucious dessert of Kurt Peterson, Harvey Evans, Virginia Sandifur and Marti Rolph brilliant quartet after DeCarlo's banquet is heaven. Thank you David Frost and your producers for capturing this golden moment in the American musical theatre.

Thank the David Frost Show for devoting an entire show to FOLLIES during its original Broadway run. BTW, the Frost show was taped at the Little Theatre (now the Hayes), next to the St. James on W 44th St.

Yvonne, God love her, blows the lyrics at one point. I hear she did it often during the show's run.

Kudos to the Musical Director cycling through the bridge an additional time. My favorite Sondheim song, and Sondheim musical, and blessed to have seen it in person at the Winter Garden when i was 11 :)

Who decided to change “the big brass gong that belonged to the immortal Sarah” to “that belonged to… grandmama”? Sarah can only remain immortal if we remember her and the gong is infinitely more magical and meaningful as her talisman than as a hand-me-down from grannie. Let them look it up at intermission if they don’t get it on the first pass-when we dumb down good writing, we cease to be enlightened, ennobled, enchanted.

Do you have the extended interview section from this clip? It was on KZitem ages ago but it was taken down, some priceless insight from the original cast would be a shame to have it disappear in limbo.

Really, it was taken down? I remember seeing that video. There was a full complete soundboard, but it got taken down as well. I hope KZitem isn't doing this intentionally.

Nice girls from North Vancouver don't always finish last, as the incandescent Ms. De Carlo here proves. De Carlo was know in the early days of 'Follies' for fudging the lyrics, but no one cared, except probably Mr. Prince and Mr. Sondheim. In fact, some theatre goers thought it was a part of the show: and old Follies girls singing her signature number from 30 years before and forgetting the lyrics.

Sadly, now that we're living in a world minus Sondheim, it's howdy-do to sorrow, and step right in, ennui.
