When I play the solo, I use all 4 of my fingers to hit the notes. I find that makes it a lot more comfortable because if you take a look at the neck, the area that he plays is all well within the reach of your fingers if you start off with your middle and play the rest of the notes using the corresponding fingers. That's just my opinion lol

I play the guitar myself and I finally got a new electric guitar given to me by our exterminator at work and I've been trying to play Johnny Cash all the time how do you actually mute the strings where the strings were really ring long when you're playing the bass part that Luther Perkins does on the guitar I mean instead of the strings actually ringing the whole time it's like it's muted when you're picking those two strings how do you get it to me like that because it seems like doing it it's not playing the notes. how do you do that?
@CountryCoversOfficial
8 жыл бұрын
Well, rest your hand on the bridge. Slightly touch the strings with your palm. The majority of your palm however will be on the bridge

@bprife
8 жыл бұрын
well since I replied after you said how to mute it and said I'll give it a shot I tried it and did it. mission accomplished! what I realized I was doing wrong and why I couldn't do it before was because I was using it using my left hand barely touching the strings but didn't know that you could press down the strings regularly but you did with the palm of my hand resting on the bridge like you said so I did that and it worked thanks again for telling me how to do that in fact you're playing is very awesome! and I am definitely going to subscribe to you and hope you do more like that.

Great. You do the Luther guitar as well as anyone since Luther. Not to be critical but Bobby Wooten never did the original recording. Luther did it in 1957 or 1958. That is the only song that was ever recorded twice by the same artist and went to the top both times. Ron

I have a fender Twin Reverb. I usually keep the bass up high along with the treble and keep the mids down low. I have the reverb around 3-4 alot of the time. I have a crappy mic which will be getting replaced soon. I don't know the name of it. My guitar is nothing special. Alder body with a two piece maple neck. The pickup is a guitar fetish 1963 tele pickup that I had overwound. Thin picks are what I use for more bite. Anything in particular you want to know besides those?

Back when I was a teenager I had a American Telecaster and I LOVED that Luther Perkins sound! Hearing this i just got bit by the Telecaster bug Friendly criticism......Your b string sounds like its out of intonation a bit. Sounds ok until you do the solo and it seems to note a little flat. I like that you played that exact solo part just like Luther Perkins did, at 01:10. Bob Wootton, who was Cash's guitar player after Perkins death, happened to play that a bit differently. Not that I didn't like Bob's way of playing, it's just that I prefer Luther Perkins version a bit more.

Like this, is this a track with Bob Wootton or Luther Perkins, does sound more like Luther? Can not stand that lead guitar in the back round which was probably Carl Perkins who would always try to add to the simplicity of the Luther/Wootton playing.......Luther was the father of this sound, Bob Wootton the master.
