Thank you for posting this tutorial. I used your technique for a baby shower cake last week and it was a hit. People didn't believe that it was edible! They thought it was a toy.

This was the most excellent video. Thank you for posting. I am not good at modeling straight out of my head and your video really broke down each step and I made two really cute elephant cake toppers.

are gum paste and tylose the same? I always have an issue with my fondant getting too soft and losing shape. Yours seems to stay where you put it. I usually make gum paste but you’re just using fondant with added tylose, seems to be working well.
@MardieMakesCakes

+Melissa Sharma typlose added to fondant makes gumpaste, so basically the same. I use heaps as you see, just means you have to work a bit quicker so it doesn't start cracking on you. (sorry for the wait on the reply!!)

hi Alison my balloon is a little foam ball with a flower wire inserted, then covered with fondant. I poked the wire through his bow loop to make it stand up. Sorry this wasn't shown. Thanks for watching!

what brand of fondant do you use? when I attempt to make figures like this the fondant slowly sinks and does not hold it's shape with the weight of the head, legs or whatever and so my figures end up squatty i have even added gum arabic to the fondant and all I get is a sagging figure.

The same thing happened to me once..... So I've come up with a solution (that it might not be the best one, but.... it saved me!). I usually do the parts separate (in this case, would be body and head) and wait 12-24 hours to assemble them together. By then, my head would be a little harder and easier to put on the body without sinking into it! I've done a Peppa Pig cake like this and it turned out great! Hope it helped! :)

hi, sory for the delay in responding! is it hot/humid where you are working? I live in a tropical climate so must work in air conditioning when making my figurines. using a reeeeally decent amount of tylose, air con and waiting for pieces to firm up (as Andressa has mentioned) before adding weight should help. Good luck, thanks for watching!!
