I was nine years old. It was all anybody could talk about the next day at recess. It was a two parter and the made us sweat it out for a week while Fonzie was halfway through the jump.

The classic line if I remember correctly, Fonzie asks, "why did Arnold put the chicken stand there?" Richie tells him, "you were supposed to swerve to avoid it" Fonzie's response is "a guy jumping 14 garbage cans has the right of way!"

So if I remember right, the running joke was that Arnold had bought too many chicken wings, and he was trying to sell them. I suppose this was the writer’s way of keeping the joke going and getting rid of the wings and adding a little suspense to the jump. It’s a lot a work, but when you are ten it all seemed believable.

Henry Winkler couldn't ride a bike to save his life. The only footage of him on a moving bike that were ever screened was the images in the shows intro and even then the engine wasn't running. The set hands ran behind pushing him up to speed and he free wheeled through the take. And then he fell off of it and crashed LOL

I know it's been 4 years but wrong😅 Season one had a Harley-Davidson. Big, awkward and heavy. That's why he's on a triumph 350. Which he did ride. He never got a motorcycle endorsement. Nor did he ever drive it off the movie sets 😂

I always get a laugh out of that episode because it was supposed to be a big TV event, yet there were only about 20 spectators in the parking lot watching.

Does anyone know the name of the stunt man who actually performed the jump?
@dand3975
Жыл бұрын
It was very likely Rex Blackwell or Gary Davis, they both worked with tv and movie filming production's. Gary 100% did the stunts for big screen movie "Viva Knievel". Rex did the jump stunts on tv show "Chips". Also a very young Robbie Knievel was gest star on tv show Chips as "Shake Patterson" and jumped a flying airplane on a Maico dirt bike.

Fonzie jumps the cans and actually let the bike go sliding into the chicken stand...you can see the stuntman not even come in contact with the stand at all! the VERY NEXT frame he is buried in a mountain of chicken boxes that weren't even THERE 2 SECONDS ago as he lies on his back asking "am I DEAD?" NO Fonzie, you're NOT dead, but your show is!

Henry Winkler couldn't even ride a motorcycle. He said he rode it one time and about killed the sound guy and they never let him on it again. He would sit on a bike attached to a board with wheels and they would pull him around.

Coulda' done without the idiotic, annoying music. Why not just show the damn clip with the original audio intact? Ruined a classic TV moment. Thumbs down.
