Food and snacks for me and the doggy for a five-day mountain hike in Femundsmarka National Park.
I have released a video where I go through food and snacks for me and the doggy on a five day mountain hike.
The focus is
Small gas consumption from the gas kitchen, ä and light and cheap. A lot of calories in relation to the weight.
The food gives me almost 3000kcal/day. My dog gets a little more and a little tastier than at home.
Food and snacks for a five-day mountain hike.
Nothing freeze-dried, but everything is made at home in a simple and cheap way.
For breakfast and lunch, I only add cold water from the nearest mountain stream.
For dinner I add boiling water and then wait 15 minutes, then it's ready to eat. This means that I manage well with a gas tube filled with 100g.

Dry food for hiking
Drying your own food is easy and provides good meals that last a long time. Here are the tips to get started.
Advantages of drying food
For many, mealtime is the highlight of the hike. Dried food is best if you want energy-rich food with low packing weight. Fresh ingredients can be too heavy to carry for a long time, dried food also lasts better and can also be quickly prepared when hunger strikes. It is possible to buy good ready freeze-dried food in both our digital and physical store, but it is both easy and good to dry your own food.
Methods of drying food
The most common ways are in a drying oven/mat dryer, in the oven or on parchment paper at room temperature.
Dry for as short a time and at as low a temperature as possible. Fruit, vegetables and cheese should be dried at fifty degrees and chicken, fish and meat at seventy degrees.
A drying oven provides good temperature and air circulation. If you dry in an oven, you can leave the oven door ajar to get the air circulating.
Foods that are good for drying
Lots of fresh produce can be dried. Rather dry too long if you are unsure.
Fruit, vegetables and onions only need to be peeled, thinly sliced and dried.
Roots, cabbage and leafy vegetables need to be soaked before drying to retain color and taste.
Beans and lentils are cooked before drying. The same applies to meat, fish and chicken, which must be fried at a higher heat before they can be dried.
Storage of dried food
If you dry your ingredients correctly and store them in a dark, cool and dry place, they can last in a glass jar or plastic bag for several years. Dried meat, fish and other fatty foods must be stored in the fridge or freezer to prevent them from going rancid. Put the dried food in ready-made portion bags and feel free to take extra fat with you on the hike. Home-dried food often has less fat than what you are used to eating at home.
