I am in Canada.Most are for low income folks.When I used to go you had to show care cards for the members in your family.There wasnt a lot of fresh veggies or fruit back then but we were grateful for anything we received. I have heard that now there is an abundance of fresh fruit and veggies from grocery stores.Some let you pick stuff as you walk by.

I'm in Canada as well. We've been lucky enough not to need Food Bank assistance very often, but my husband and I had to call them once when we lived in the country. It was the middle of winter, our truck had broken down, we had no money, and I was pregnant. We were down to some stale buns and a partial bag of frozen corn. The Food Bank in the nearest town delivered (!!) us a couple of big boxes of food, including homemade jam and a couple of whole chickens. We live in a different province now, but we still support our local Food Bank regularly.

In California each and every food bank is different. We have some that are just for residents of a specific area where you have a shopping cart and you go in and choose what you want... you get a certain amount of each item from shelf staple items to produce to meat to dairy products, etc. there are some pantries that are available to any California resident, most are like that. Some pantries are drive thru pantries (pre boxed of course) while others you wait in line for. There are once a month pantries, weekly pantries, the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (insert day of the week pantry), and every other week pantries. Pantries have a ton of food and help many. The food is usually really good too.

Thank you for these videos I'm in Wisconsin I haven't used the food bank in 14 years I figured the poorest of the poor should get help first salvation army only helps people once a month so if you don't have food the rest of the month you're out of luck the elderly should be first to get help there should be a local food stamp program they match the state with the federal you get $50 a month the state gives you $50 Wisconsin where I live it's once a month for help at the salvation army
@rachaeloregon38

That is really common. I tend to go at the end of the month if I need it. I often get a call if they have alot and things will get thrown away. It's a small town and they know me. There can be a lot of waste if people don't use it.

There is a program called Ruby's Pantry in Wisconsin and maybe other states, too. A lot of towns put on the food Pantry once a month, and you can go to another town's monthly Pantry day if you want. The cost is $20 a share, and I think you can buy 2 shares per visit. This looks like a similar setup. Just Google Ruby's Pantry to see if there's one in your area. It's not free, but you get a good amount of food for $20. They're always looking for volunteers!

There is a foodbank called Ruby's Pantry that anyone can go to (not income based). It costs $20 per share and you can a lot. This food is near expiration and is donated from businesses that would normally dispose of it into a dumpster. Google Ruby's Pantry to find one in your area.

I both need to use a food pantry and I also volunteer. I do not think people are bragging. They are very very very grateful for the help. We are all a community. Sometimes you are in a position to give. Sometimes you need help. I am glad tubers are taking the sting of negative judgements out of getting needed help and being happily and openly grateful. This tuber video clearly states how much she needed the food and how grateful she is. She is not bragging at all. God bless.

This speaks to the amount of food that may go to waste if not donated to those in need. I do use a food bank in the VERY small town I live in....it provides just the basics....canned goods, dry goods like rice and beans and two lbs of meat every two weeks. And I need it. I'm a senior citizen with an income of $1132 monthly. I qualify for $23 in SNAP benefits monthly...so minimal but I think it's because I have a 6 year old car that actually runs. Anyway....what's my point? Yeah, I wonder why people do this but if it helps folks who really need to know help is out there I guess it's okay.

Food pantries are a great thing for people who are struggling with job loss, medical bills, and seniors who are on a fixed income. People don’t brag about being in need, they are passing this information on to those who may not know about the pantries.

I have volunteered in soup kitchens, food banks and food drives (none were government). These organizations and the people working or volunteering operate on the idea “if you think you need help, we help Period.” If Bill Gates (or you) walk through the door requesting help, they provide help. Many people were ashamed to get help, the idea is to make it easier for people in need to get aid. These organizations do not consider anyone “undeserving” of their assistance. Volunteers are upset by people trying to categorize any of their clients as “undeserving”

Lee, I came across your comment and I have to agree with you. I went onto KZitem and found there were far too many people BOASTING about their "HAUL". The reason for a food bank was for people that felt food insecurity for the WEEK, could go to the food bank and receive food rather than going without a meal. All are run differently as far as going in and "shopping", Trunk deliveries of items you order online, Trunk boxes of random foods given and not chosen and so on. It is NOT supposed to be for people to hoard food or freeze food for later, it is supposed to be for that weeks consumption. It is also NOT for people to go to the food bank and later share their food with others. If those people are in need of food they should be signing up themselves. Food instability is no joke and these people do a performance of the charity given to them online. I see what these people go through when they drive up and the embarrassment they feel. There should be no embarrassment at all, because at times we all need help. But, these people who post their haul and then let us know what they can do with their EXTRA money now that the food bank saved them some is quite disturbing. Several says ago a women showed how she picked up her "HAUL" as well as two of her friends following in their cars. From her description, there was no food instability, they were instead all going that evening to get their nails done with the money they would have spent on groceries ! WHAAAAAAAAAAT !! Food banks are there for a reason and a good reason, it is the people taking advantage of the system and having no self respect that is the problem. Also, it is intended that if there are items that YOU will not use when getting your food, that you return that food to the food bank for further distribution. Food banks do not always have enough food as it is, so it is imperative that people be honest. Corporate greed raises our grocery cost. Individual Human Greed makes others starve.

@dharma6481
8 ай бұрын
Food banks don’t judge. No one knows the situation better than the person seeking help. It doesn’t matter what clothes they wear, what car they drive, where they live or how much money they earn. Only the individual seeking help knows the situation and knows that they need help. Everyone gets help when THEY feel that they need help. Food banks and the workers/volunteers do not want any of their clients to think they are “undeserving”. There is no shame in seeking help. There is shame in trying to police who is deserving vs undeserving. There is shame in being too proud to seek help and thus letting your children go hungry and worry about their next meal and the bare shelves. Please seek help if you are struggling- or about to be struggling. If you lose your job or are about to lose your job get food bank immediately! You can shift your regular grocery money to pay rent or car or medical bills. This will delay you and your family going homeless. This is why people donate their time and money to these organizations- to help during hard times.
