Hey, thanks for reminding me; I wanted to get a package of English muffins out of the freezer. I've never seen the French toast kind either, sounds good. I'm into eating egg and bacon or sausage on muffins here lately, and I always use some mayo on mine. Looks like a really good haul. I now know a little bit more about those bitters since I just read about them on The House of Angostura website - "decreases the harshness of alcohol and cleanses the palate." Okay. I see the guy was German but moved to Angostura, Venzuela. How bout that? My great uncle, a German, way back in the 60s had a pretty nice bar in his basement and had stuff like that, probably just for show in his case. He wasn't much of a drinker himself but had a nice collection of beer steins from Germany. My auntie would have a few on the holidays. He fixed mainly strawberry daiquiris or whiskey sours for the ladies at Christmastime. More than you ever wanted to know, but thanks much for some funny childhood memories! Lol.

When I get my hands on a stalk of celery, it gets cleaned, cut up, and what's chopped gets put into a plastic bag and frozen (does not need any processing and is good for stews or soups). I save the end of the stalk, slice off the dirty end and freeze to use when making chicken broth. I have also scrubbed carrots well, save and freeze the peelings, also use in making broth. Makes me feel good about what I used to compost. Retired now, so have the time. Also will make "breakfast sausage" with plain ground pork. I add 3/4 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of thyme, and just under 1 tsp. Of ground sage, black pepper and a little cayenne to 1-1 1/4 lb of ground pork. It's A much requested recipe in my house.

But, if you like fish, I think it’s kind of a seasoning? Love The Cheesecake Factory, and yes, we always ask for extra brown bread, lol…and order way too much food (that winds up coming home as lots of leftovers, lol.) 1:47 I understand people needing to use food banks as we have had to in the past as my mum is disabled, BUT why didn't you leave the almond milk for someone else if you already have 2 cartons worth of milk? We don't drink it, so I would rather give it to someone who has a allergy to dairy milk, that could be the difference between them getting milk or not. In the UK we have limits on how much you can take, so everyone gets something. I actually think its a little greedy. Personally I wouldn't take a milk that I don't drink and when I have plenty more, that's just me though.
@mamabairds

That's a fair point! I didn't grab it to be greedy, just not something we could normally try, so I thought we would give it a shot. I've seen other's do dumpster diving for food! I would want to check it myself right out of the dumpster before I'd eat it. I don't think that happens here. @mamabairds
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! There isn't a "rule" that says you can only do one or the other. We are renting, so our homesteading is limited. We aren't able to grow enough food for our family to survive without needing food from other sources...yet! So, you can go to the food bank once a week, in my case, and have a garden to grow and preserve what we can and make a monthly trip to Costco to stock up on what else we need. It doesn't have to be one or the other! I hope that helps you! Just because you are disabled and may be getting benefits from that, doesn't mean you can't homestead!! Please let me know if you have any more questions!

I'm not bragging. I'm showing others what types of foods are at the food bank and what they can do with it. So those who ares struggling can know it's an option and a resource. Thanks for your comment and concern.
