Holy cow. Just boil up the corn meal like cream of wheat. Add cheese and bacon or spam for savory or any jam, jelly or sweetener for sweet. It should store well and give you breakfast on cold days for years.

Yes, you can freeze crescent rolls, but NOT in the can! Take them out of the can, shape and freeze. I freeze them on parchement-lined cookie sheets first and then store them in rigid plastic containers. When you're ready to bake them, take out how ever many you want and pop them into a preheated oven. Let them cook an additional five minutes more than the package directs. You can also bake them first and then freeze, but don't keep the baked ones frozen for more than a couple months.

Keep onions and potatoes far away from each other (and both out of plastic.) The gases from the onions make the potatoes go bad very quickly. If you have a cool, dry, dark place (like a basement) onions in a large ventilated box (punch holes in cardboard is fine) and potatoes will stay fresh for a long time. Our potatoes (russet) stayed fresh for about 3 months, and onions for about 5 that way. Not everyone has that kind of storage tho, I get that. Also, you and everyone in your area is so fortunate for the food banks you have. You get an amazing amount of food, and a lot of it is healthy, also! Amazing how much it varies from city to city on how well people are supported at the food bank.

That is good to know on the onions and potatoes. I have my onions in a basket in my kitchen. But I think ilk move them down to my laundry room. It is way cooler down there, and kinda dark too. Thanks 💞 Yes we are very blessed
@mollymollie6048

@@CandanceBrewer If the laundry room doesn’t work, I’ve also seen people take a leg off of pantyhose or tights (I probably have pantyhose from 20 years ago, lol) and drop an onion down the leg, tie a knot, drop another down…repeat until full. Cut a slit in the hose that you can pull the onion out of, and hang the hose from the ceiling so it dangles…that works, also. (I learned this stuff the hard way, I used to keep potatoes and onions, in the same basket in the plastic, under the kitchen sink, where it’s humid and wonder why they went bad every week, lol. Finally looked it up cause I knew they weren’t supposed to go bad so quickly!! Oh! Someone may have already commented, but I think for corn tortillas or tamales “masa” is used…I’ve never made either, but I’ve made plenty of cornbread. So, not sure if the cornmeal works the same as ‘masa’ but it will work for cornbread and anything else you’d use cornmeal for. Blue cornbread would be pretty fun! (I like the blue chips! I think they taste the same, just a different variety of corn…but I’m no corn expert, lol!)

It depends on which food bank I go to the drive through one's just last your car with what they have, and c we are just grateful. Even if it's items we can't use, we quickly pass it on to others who can use it. Very little is wasted. There is only one I currently go to where you can go inside and pick out what you need and will use. That is my favorite. But we can only go there once a month. So we go to others that are drive through that we can go to weekly. It is such a blessing not only to our family but also to lots of friends and extended family as well. Thanks for watching and commenting 💞 we appreciate your support.

That seems like a lot of food for the size of your family. Here they regulate how much you get based on family size to be sure one Family isn't getting cases of stuff.
@CandanceBrewer
Жыл бұрын
Maybe. But I'm not in charge. Those in charge have been doing this since 2020 and kinda have an idea how many families are coming through each week. Every person who went through got the same cases of stuff like we did. There were pallets of each item, and if they don't give it out, it goes in the trash. Yes, I know this is crazy. Maybe their logic is that it is better to give every car 2 cases of Cresent rolls, etc and not have to throw any in the trash at the end of the day. Each car/family is more than welcome to share their cases with others if they won't use it all. I am so Grateful for the abundance we were blessed with, and we always share with family and friends who might not be able to get out to the food pantry. Thanks for watching and commenting 💞
