Isn't that why we have bodies that are supposed to rigorously test these products before releasing them, to the masses? Ofc, boycotting can raise some awareness, but it really exposes how inefficient the FSSAI and other regulatory bodies have been, if it allows such sub-standard products for consumption. Only when they make strict regulations, will companies try to comply and improve their quality.

This is true, when I lived in Estonia I found the food quality is far better than India's food quality. Lays here costs 2 Euros but I never felt that oilyness after eating the entire big packet, which I had in India.

The government has done nothing to scrutinize the quality of the products and again GST even we are paying. So in a nutshell, we are paying a lot for very less quantity and unhealthy products. And mind it, Estonia imports Lays since it doesn't have any manufacturing or packaging industry of Lays here, so yeah 2 euros is not much here for the cost to the country, quality and taste.

Thanks to you and Doctor Pal and Dr Karan I have stopped consuming many processed food. Although I always had a portion control for everything. But now I am completely avoiding them. I always look for the ingredients and if I notice palm oil or sugar in a higher percentage I don't buy. Thanks.

There are lots of food products. Like Pomace olive oil is banned in European countries. However it is available in India for 300-500/ litre. At times we are not even aware that we are consuming the worst kind of food , the unhealthiest version. So, pomace is basically discarded oil which we consume in India.

Pomace olive oil is available in the US. I use it all the time. It is not always labeled as pomace but it is pomace. Pomace olive oil has higher smoking point. We are not supposed to cook food with extra virgin olive oil as the oil burns and releases toxic chemicals. Don’t fry your onions and make your Indian olive oil with pomace( pronunciation: poh-mah-chchey) olive oil.

Dude don't you know about PPP. Manufacturing in India is cheaper because of PPP and people pay less because of PPP. You can't justify 1-1 price difference, when they produce same product in Europe/US it is expensive because ingredients and labour are expensive.

It’s not the same product though! To be fair to the companies, their recipes are based on a triangulation of market research (aka taste preference), cost & policy. If Indian policy dictates people shouldn’t eat garbage products, they’ll make them better. Probably worth looking at the arc companies have gone through in other countries, rather than comparing where they are at today. India is still fairly underdeveloped for packaged food policy, has tax incentives for multinationals in CPG and, affordability is low. It makes sense therefore, that it is where it is. It should change, but not in comparison with other countries- should change to serve the local population.

That is because the products that they sell in India are way cheaper than what you would get them for in the USA or in somewhere like Australia. Quality control will always increase the price of the final product which will eventually mean that the poorer you are, the lesser you'll be able to consume them. The same thing also applied to pharmaceutical products like medicines and aid kits. If India is ready for that, we can protest against it.

This can be seen in every industry. For example, some motorbike companies sell their cheaper and low quality variants of the same bike they sell in other countries with very high configuration. This is because of our low per capita income. Riches are getting everything high quality at their particular stores but there is noone to defend our middle class and lower class. Yes it's true. I live in scotland, here the quality of food is far better than india. Firstly i thought ' ye sab to india me bhi milta hai' but once i eat it. I can taste the clear difference. In india sugar tolerance is high. If sugar doesnt hit the brain, people dismiss it as tasteless chocolate. It is presumed from the sweets we have in bakeries and sweet stalls. Don't blame company for sugar content. They serve what people like. Its Business 101. It's good that such questions raised and awarenesses is being created. It will one day make a positive change. But, palm Oil, No GO. Brand like lays must not do that especially for the price paid.

But classic salted lays in India is moderately salted- just as much as it needs. In the US, the classic salted lays is salted more. The salt just dries or burns the mouth. Excess salt also has a lot of health problems. The classic salted lays in the US have more pesticides and chemicals from the source of every product used in the process. And third, palm is just an oil with high smoking point. I live in the US. The US food and health regulations are tight but has a large spectrum of qualification- i.e. very unhealthy products can also be easily qualified. Some baby formulae in the US also have sugar in them. After I came to the US, I think the quality of food is better in India. Okay though not always hygenic but definitely more organic.

Never delved that deep into the "cost" aspect of a product like Kit Kat taking into consideration each and every components used therein. But if the kit kat that costs Rs. 10 in India were to be made using the same inputs used in the Australia/UAE, the price would definitely double. And India is a price sensitive market. Hence this people love putting inside their system/body (their biggest asset) cheap quality food made from inferior ingredients. Mental shift towards healthier food is necessary & paying for the same too as long as there are fair practices in the market.

It is easier to go without things like lays , kit kat etc ...they will chnage only when they feel the pinch. Why is govt not taking these up ?
