It seems no one wants to put any blame on the manufacturing of the yarn. The dye jobs are totally inconsistent. Even the planned pooling yarns do not colour pool properly...and all videos say crochet looser, crochet tighter...on the turning chain make a puff stitch to use up more yarn. Why would one brand of pooling yarn work in one colour scheme, but NOT work out in another colour? I'll tell you why. The manufacturer of the yarn is not consistent. Stop blaming yourselves. For example my knitting and crochet tension is extremely even. I'm very consistent. Yet I have to purposely make some stitches very loose or very tight in order for the right colour stitch come up at the right spot??!! All you knitters and crocheters should write the wool/yarn companies that claim they have colour pooling wool (Red Heart, Loops 'n' Thread, etc). I have gone to stores and pulled out the first 20-30 inches and saw inconsistent colour changes...often overlapping colours that was murky or muddy and just not making a fast enough colour change. Please if you pay a good price for your wool and make many purchases....many skiens hoping, "I'll try this one...this will be the one that works out"...then it's time to talk to the companies that make the claim, it's a pooling yarn!!

I agree. I just ordered online 4 skeins of premier everyday plaid pooling in navy brown. Um it's awful. The colors blend so much and are speckled with the other colors. Even when I got it to pool it hardly stood out. And to be marketed as plaid yarn...,🤦♀️

here you go, putting my self out for the trolls. I use a 1/2dc to eat up yarn rather than loose stitches., a few here and there don't show in the work because you still have a nice full one color stitch with well formed V bars or what ever you call them, just my preference, try it if you don't like it, keep your opinion to yourself because I like to do that and I don't care what anyone things about it unless it's helpful. BTW, if you don't know how to control the speed of a youtube video, go to the settings icon at the bottom right of the video screen and click on "speed" to either speed up or slow down the voice will change to an aline voice, just ignore and follow the movements. Pass this info on in your posts to trolls who like to complain about presenter's speeds. I give this video 4 star out of 5

I had wool that I bought in the early 2000s when I was pregnant. I bought it because of the combination of colors, but I never knew what to do with it, nor did I know which knitting needle was suitable(lost the label). Hi, Janeen. Nice yarn pooling video, thank you. You ought to consider doing many more videos, since yarn companies change their yarns often! Sometimes they add more colors, delete some low popularity yarns or and add new ones! You should consider doing one type and color per video, giving a review for pooling and the outcome of trying different hooks, too! As you may know yarn pooling interest is still very much there and there are NOT many people doing videos for them! This video was recommended by KZitem and I watched it, because I’m very much still interested in yarn pooling! Thank you! 😍👏❤️🙏🌹 P.S. I, guess I had forgotten seeing your video a while back! I still love it and wished that you had many more!

Janeen, I just learned about planned pooling & have watched several videos. I thought I understood how it works & tried different skeins of yarn I had on hand but it just didn’t look right. Today your video showed up, I watched it & was very pleased how much easier the way you explained it. You had mentioned this is your first video & diffidently you must make more, cause you are a great teacher. Other videos said you can’t use certain variegated yarns such as an ombré but now after your video I disagree with them. I gave you a big thumbs up, subscribed to your channel, hit the bell to be notified when you have a new one & I also shared it with my mil cause she wants to learn & has been so confused. Keep the great videos coming Janeen. Have a blessed & great holidays to come. Hugs, Dee

No swatching? That's one less thing to do. Wish we could do away with changing hooks. I saw a planned pooling tutorial by someone who's name I don't recall. She seems to be an expert, but I would not be able to tolerate having to go back and undo stitches, as that was part of the how to. Other than that your way does seem easier. I love the Argyle patterns.

Jocelyn Peach , I’m just seeing your response and I thought I tell you that it is sad that you’re trying to rain on Janeen’s parade! You should consider in the future that if you’re not liking something you’re watching on KZitem, then just stop watching and move on, that’s what I do! I’m sure if it was your video, you wouldn’t appreciate a comment like yours from somebody else! Oh, and BTW I have seem just about every video tutorial on yarn pooling there is and I don’t go around telling people commenting on the video where to go to get more info, or who is better to watch, either! I have seen Nadia’s yarn pooling tutorial when it got released! I know about the yarn pooling website, too! But, what’s the sense if you’re required to swatch, count and input number and colors in order get a yarn pooling pattern when you already have done work for them! And lastly I’m not about to buy a book on yarn pooling when there is already info out there for those interested in looking for it and also many public media groups, too! I sincerely hope you’re are filled with happy energy and vibes in your life and consider spreading it to others!

Color pooling looks amazing but its super confusing for me. Your video is good, yes, but at the start you mention "look at the one below and it tells you the color" and my mind is saying, that stitch below can say whatever the heck it wants, the yarn ball controls the color flow. I wish I could get this technique down, but every video leaves me feeling the same.. pooling = too much fiddling and I would love to just crochet.

I am using Red Heart "Woodsy" which has a very short color changes, I understand the concept of pooling, but no one has explained how we would do more than one sequence so we could do an afghan, I can find the pattern for pooling but do not know where to go to make more than one sequence of the pooling, I am trying to make an afghan for a twin bed, can you help me with this, or could you do a short video on this? Also, when I go to add another skein of yarn, how do I figure out how to start that skein, so that the pooling continues?

All you need to do to make the width as wide as you like is to add more full "sequences" . For example , if your sequence was red, white, blue, white, red... you'd continue the chain for as long as you want the width making sure to end with the last color of one full sequence . other than that everything is the same . Have fun !

I'm totally a beginner and thus far have only made a winter hat with the moss stitch, but, I have figured out a couple of things: 1) always tie on your new skien in the EXACT same place in the color sequence so that you get the exact stitch count necessary for the color wave you are on (kind of like keeping your place in a book), 2) I had the very same question about doubling the size of the project. I haven't tried it yet, but am wondering if you just keep doubling the color sequence until you get the length/width you desire???? i/d/k? 3) If you are on Facebook, there are numerous crochet groups several of which are planned pooling groups that are very helpful with lists of yarns, stitches etc. to help us newbies! ;) Good Luck!

Without being too critical, because your podcast is very nice and very informative, you are not crocheting correctly. You are telling people to go completely underneath a whole stitch when they make a new single crochet, when, in fact, you only go under that 28:21 top V that you can see. You don’t go under everything and grab all three pieces like you’re going to the row below.
