Interesting foot taping for you today with our old Physio Fran who used to work in our clinic. She has fallen down the stairs and suffered an avulsion fracture of one of the calcaneo-cuboid ligaments which is an important stabiliser on the lateral side of foot.
She doesn’t need to be booted as it’s only a small avulsion fracture and she’s walking reasonably ok, however she doesn’t like the twisting movement of it into inversion. So what wer'e using today is a taping technique to stabilise that joint - ultimately preventing the cuboid from moving on the calcaneus when she walks. This will help settle the pain, let it heal and allow her to get it stronger.
There are two parts of the taping - the first one will go from the medial side under the arch and then pull up laterally to keep the cuboid in position. The second will go from the medial calcaneus, around posteriorly to anterior - to act as a reinforcing ligament on top of the same line of the original ligament
. This is a really effective way of stabilise her injury and help her recovery well.
