Footsteps is a short film that explores the power of having a blueprint and what it means for young people today.
Jornadie, a Haitian young woman, is a soccer player in training who ambitiously waits for her favorite athlete and cousin, Esthericove Joseph, to take the world stage. She’s part of Haiti’s women league that’s playing in the World Cup for the 1st time in history.
On the backdrop of political instability and extreme insecurity, a beacon of light and hope is found in the game of foutbòl (soccer). An organization GOALS Haiti uses soccer as a tool for youth development. Working in an oceanside town in Haiti they have been successful in getting young women recruited to national and international recognition.
The hope that she has in herself is mirrored through the not so distant dream that one day she will play pro for Haiti like Esthericove Joseph who trained with GOALS, the very same program Jornadie now attends. At a time where Haiti needs some positive news, for this young girl, these players ARE her blueprint.
This short film was made in collaboration with GOALS Haiti & Artists Institute with the participation of Esthericove Joseph.
