My goodness! This is why no one really touches her songs. That voice! No artifice, no runs, no belts... just perfect diction and pitch.

Now I understand why they never "retouched" or enhanced her voice. She's one of very few who ever sang as perfectly live as her studio tracks. 💗 Love U Karen 4ever 😭

I remember crystal clear that in 1971, driving up to the country with my parents. I was like 13, and me an my little sister was in the back seat, and my father always had the AM radio on. All of a sudden the brand new Carpenters song came on. It was 'Rainy Days and Mondays', and it blew me away. And I thought, they did it again. Another great song. Now, my parents were straight. They listened to stuff like Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones and Barbara Streisand, and shit. They hated my music which was The Beatles, The Stones and all the 60's bands on the radio at the time. So I wouldn't tell them (or my friends) that I love this new song. Or that The Carpenters were great. My parents wouldn't have given a shit, or even related to it. So The Carpenters were like in the middle of both generation gaps. One reporter guy once said that The Carpenters sold millions and millions of records, but nobody ever admits to owning any of them. lol... GodBlessKarenCarpenter

Watching Karen sing blows me away every time. Growing up in the late 60's, and early 70's, and getting high with my high school friends while listening to Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath, and The Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith, etc. you couldn't let anyone know how much you loved Karen Carpenter and her singing, and her songs. The Carpenters were considered so uncool back then amongst the so called counterculture, freak generation. You had to keep it to yourself. You'd be persecuted. It was seriously like that big time, back then. I think all that has changed a lot over the years, because of the obvious I guess.....But... nobody ever, ever sang like Karen Carpenter. Peace and Love.

yeah a guilty pleasure at the time. like john denver. we had to be rockers. too funny. this and most of the Carpenter songs are so beautiful. i remember riding around with my folks and acting mad about listening to it.

I'm an 18 year old boy and it always makes me sad to hear that the Carpenters were considered uncool back then. What makes me more sad is how awful today's music is. My generation likes horrible music which is rap and they don't realise what they are missing out on.

Frank, I forgot all about that stigma you just discussed but you are absolutely correct I remember the same thing growing up in the 70s I am 56 now and it was very uncool to be down with the Carpenters LOL but when I was by myself I would really get off on so much of their music and the fact that they had Studio musicians like Joe Osborne on bass and hal Blaine on drums they were a huge influence on me musically as a bassist there was so much to dig your ears into in addition to Karen's Angelic voice those harmonies and melodies we're so beautifully orchestrated they really had it all and carved out a very unique Niche for themselves especially with Richards arrangements and compositions without that they would never have been as successful people Overlook that sadly because she was the star of the show of course and you can say what you want about them but nobody sounded just like them they were unique. I used to listen to them and The 5th Dimension between Karen and Marilyn you had stereophonic angels and two beautiful choruses to back them up but interestingly both bands used the same band of Studio musicians because Hal Blaine and Joe Osborn played on almost every single one of both groups hit songs in case you didn't know that...just interesting facts. The Wrecking Crew as they were called played behind all the great vocal groups in the 60s and 70s like The Mamas & Papas and all the vocal groups like that even the Monkees and countless others that is why the quality of the music itself is so great and holds up to this day and probably for a very long time to come. Peace, Bob M.

Speaking of The 5th Dimension I'm sure you'll remember this really awesome tune that in a way kind of reminds me of Karen singing for all we know this is kind of Marilyn's version of this type of ballad...enjoy! kzitem.info/news/bejne/w4N8m5l_sn-keJg
