I vote for Rupert to sing more often, in public. He has a very honest and beautiful voice...

Without the advantage of a powerful voice, Rupert Friend redefines this popular classic with unique phasing and heartfelt emotion. He is a bard, singing for his supper in the story and every bit the lyric poet.

I love this movie and have watched it many times. This scene and the ending always bring tears to my eyes. A wonderful relationship, you see how she imagines her late husband in him, the firelight, the tears of remembrance. So Sweet! I miss my SaSa.

This song reminds me of the last time I saw my college sweet heart....the love is still as sweet as it was that day in late summer after we had lunch and he walked me to my class to say "check ya later" as we never said "goodbye" to one another but indeed he was leaving to attend another college cross country. It never occurred to me at that moment I would never see him again....but For all we know...

I think that Joan was genuinely moved by Rupert’s singing and playing. This is a unique film which evokes the satirical Harold and Maude (which is very different and mentioned as a joke line in the film.). This is with believable, real-life people however. .

Great acting is often about subtlety and this is what you have here. Dame Joan Plowright can convey more emotion in a few silent moments than some actors can in a lifetime of trying! This is exactly what greatness is and my she had it in spades! So cruel that we lost countless more opportunities to see such skill through her battle with failing vision. There is a Podcast from last year where she recites Shakespeare's sonnet 116 from memory and it sends goosebumps through you. Such a rare talent and such a truly delightful lady much missed but hopefully enjoying a well earned retirement!
