Probably because the'd be awkward to time. The only thrusts I can think of are guaranteed like PK and warmommy stabs or super fast like nobushi pokes and everybody despises those. The only exception would be centurion but that can't really be applied to warden. Yeah, FH has way more to dive into. I hope he also dives into the samurai. Sure, they wield different weapons but japanese and european weapons are identical so same rules should apply. Or even the vikings. I always heard that the Raider has no technique. Then I saw two hema guys doing dane axe sparring and it looks pretty much the same as raider.

Yeah, I really wish they had actual HEMA practitioners doing the move set choreography. Warden for sure needs to be able to thrust as his side light attack. In an old version of the game the double light attack chain from the sides used to be a slice and a thrust, instead of double cuts. I don't know why they changed it, probably had something to do with parry animation.
@bioraidos5454

Slice and thrust? Probably due to animation. Maybe the animation, if not altered, felt too slow and would either give him some dumb I-frames or made him vulnerable. And if they sped up the animation it probably looked too goofy/weird/scuffed so they ditched it and got something else

Hey, just in case you might care about this and my little German brain got hurt by "Sushel" i'll try to explain the pronunciation of "Schlüssel". It's pretty straight forward to be honest, most of the sounds are native to the english language. A close approach might be "Shlusle" or "Shlusel" if that makes a big difference. Only weird thing is the 'ü'. It's like the 'ew' sound when a scottish person might say "grew" but it's short like the 'i' in "wit". If the IPA helps, it's " [ˈʃlʏsl̩] "

As an animator, when we create those idle positions, its often for cool factor and how good it look on many different angles and how well it blends with other animations, so it may not be the animation director's intention to use thrusts when they decided on this idle stance

I've been watching your videos as reference for 3d Character stances and posing. And after the small amount of work Ive done so far, I'm almost certain the reason the warden's blade is lower is because of the armor on his shoulders. That stance is already super awkward to pose based on the hand/arm position. Moving the arms up, even slightly, looks like it would be more work to prevent the pauldrons from causing crazy amounts of clipping.

There are only so many techniques that will actually work in a fight. Kendo and longsword fencing styles have a very large overlap in what is a good cut or a strong defensive stance, with some minor alterations that play into the strengths of either weapon. Kendo for example takes advantage of the extreme stiffness of katanas in that instead of looking for a bind, they will instead hit the opponent's weapon off-balance with the spine then quickly try to capitalize on the opening. Longsword fencing likes to use the full length f the weapon as a tool. Half-swording, reverse cuts, using the crossguard and pommel as bashing weapons. These don't inherently make the longsword better, but it's a weapon that has over time been developed into the swiss army knife of swords, flexible and adaptive.
