Have to disagree on that one. The speed is way too fast. Handel wrote it for 76 while this one is 118. I know he wrote it a bit too slow but this is overkill hahaha

I'm an atheist but this music can make me (a man) cry (with happiness) as also can the final "Amen". A sublime exposition of the best of the human genius, makes me optimistic despite all the inhumanity we see around us.

One of my alltime favorite Christmas songs. This one really is super fast but I like it better than the slower versions; it brings across the song's joyous exuberance even more. The quality of the audio and video is superb and the conductor is just a delight to watch. Just makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

For me, it's the soprano voices that makes this song. So crisp, so beautiful, so angelic. Just something about them I can't quite explain. They have this kind of power or something. Anybody know what I'm trying to say?

This verse has caught my attention this year especially. Handel wrote under an unction of the Spirit. Hera this, "unto us". God gave His most precious gift unto all mankind. What have we done with Him? We could review all the blasphemies over the lst 2000 years. But no. May we receive the One who is wonderful, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, the prince of peace. And He, Jesus, is more!! May we each receive more and more of Him. Enjoyed this version very much.

I was born in Haeme. It is a county in Finland, where the slowest men have been born from time to time. Still I prefer this fast version best of all versions I have found in KZitem. Not only fastness, also all other musical articulation and voices hit my soul in a pleasant way.

In regards to the fast tempo: Jan Peter Larsen in his article "Handelian Tempo Problems and Messiah" states Handel "wanted to have his music performed in what we would call very quick tempi...Everything points to the fact that excessive slowness has been the besetting sin of most Handel performances"

It isn't just Handel - slow tempi are a problem besetting performances of 'classical' composers (in the broadest sense) from Bach to Faure and beyond. Karajan's dominance of the golden age of recording has a lot to do with it, but so does the mid-20C perception of 'classical' music as necessarily dignified and a bit stuffy. But my god, the objections to Messiah in its early days due to its perceived excessive excitement and joy...! Bring back the delight.
