Today’s video is an extension of our previous lesson. I wanted to further examine the force as a function of time graph and determine why it is that the force of tension changes even though the free body diagram on the mass hanging does not change. #PhysicsED #flipclass

Shadia M. @ 9:10 the 0.055 doesn't cancel out. Sadly, there is a misplaced parenthesis in the equation which makes it appear as though that should be the case. The equation is written correctly on the board @ 9:37.

why why I just find your channel before 2 days of my physics exam in which 7 chapters are coming ?? 😢by the way it's not too late thank thank u so much sir for your lectures as these are clearing my confusions very perfectly but I still have a question in my mind regarding gravitational potential energy if you would solve it it would be greatly helpful to me .... in my book it's written that gravitational potential energy is the negative of work done by gravitational force in lifting something and we have taken the upward direction to be positive so the potential energy should be equal to - (work done by gravity)=-mgh according to me but it is mgh so I can't understand what we are taking positive or negative I mean this particular point confuses me so much so please explain thanks once again and please reply.. from India

***Note that at 9:10, the brackets are at the wrong place. It should be (0.055 x 9.81) - 0.907 all over 0.055 to get a negative acceleration of 6.68 m/s^2. Thank you for the video!

Yep. That's a bummer. It's pretty obvious that it is an error though. Which I guess is good?

This is a great video, but at 7:54 you say "theoretically predicted" tension value...but I don't think it's really theoretically predicted if you are using an acceleration value based on time you collected from the experiment. Also, at 9:11 the 0.907 N tension value should not be in parentheses.

@9:23 shouldn't 0.055 be canceled out? I think the parenthesis are in the wrong place

Why the acceleration of the hanging mass is maximum ?
@moimzi1310
6 жыл бұрын
Im confused as to why the free body diagram is the same for both parts 1 and 2 when in part one the force of gravity on the hanging mass cancels out with the force of tension, and in part two the force of gravity overcomes the tension.

In part 1 my hand is preventing the system from accelerating and therefore the force of tension is larger. In part 2 I let go and the system is allowed to accelerate and therefore the tension in the string is reduced.

What's the force normal due to?
@FlippingPhysics

The force normal is caused by the surface of the track on the momentum cart. See: www.flippingphysics.com/free-body-diagrams.html

How did we get -(0.907) at 9:38?

It’s the maximum tension shown on the graph at 8:26 in the video. This took me forever to figure out too
