James Wieler would a port and polish be worth the trouble on a 8 plug head

@@prakticlej8677 I think the 8 plug is very similar to this so I would think so. The Lima head is really flow restricted do any amount of porting is going to help

Nice video, I'd encourage you to show some more shots of the sections of the head that were cut up. Also, on my 87 xr4ti head, there appears to be some excess material just above the valve seats. Have you noticed this ring of material that appears? It seems to have the potential to block a fair amount of air flow, and I'm wondering if it is purposeful or not.

+Brian Hartigan Hi Brian, Yes that ring needs to be removed. Careful that you don't damage the valve seat. I color the seat with black marker to make it more visible. You can afford a mistake on the exhaust side if you are going to larger valves. Same can be said for the intake side but I am using stock size intake valves so I was extra cautious. I'll make some more videos of the section for you. cheers James

I don't know the evolution of these heads so I can't comment on which one would be the best, plus it would depend on your application.

After all of your practice, how much time did it take to port and polish the good head?
@jameswieler3295
9 жыл бұрын
+Bill T that's hard to say as I did this over several months, but I would say 1-2 hours per port so 16 hours for the ports and another 6 for the combustion chambers. That's probably an optimistic estimate. Sorry for the lack of a concrete answer.James
