I just fixed my a/c on my 2009 f250 in 2 minutes after watching this video and one other. Turned out a coil wire wasn't all the way engaged. Code reader said coil c primary and secondary circuit. I pulled on the wire it came right off. Pushed it back on till it clicked. Started truck and for the first time since owning the truck the a/c clutch engaged. I can't believe that worked! I am in shock and ahh. All the days I poured sweet knowing I didn't have the money to fix the a/c. I wasn't looking for the easy fix. You got me thinking. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

Daughter's 2013 Fusion's a/c wasn't working. She took it in. The garage said she needed a new compressor. $$$$$ Not having the funds and since it turned cold, she declined. Warmed up again in Texas. She took the car to another garage. They discovered that the compressor clutch bolt was MISSING!!! Mechanic said they've had to install many (qty?) clutch bolts on Ford vehicles. Replaced the bolt and all OK. Bottom line......daughter is HAPPY!!! That's what it's all about.

So many folks who want to upsell and get more money from us. How do we know out of all this what is ACTUALLY needed? Like in another comment the guy was told he needed a new compressor by one mechanic which is costly but then another mechanic said they only needed the compressor bolt (or whatever it was called) which saved them money. They know I dont know what I'm looking for and I feel mechanics take advantage of us.

I had a problem where my AC system was actually working too good, causing the evaporator to freeze up, and stop air flow alltogether. This was just after I took the truck to so called "experts" for AC problems. When i picked up the truck 1000 bucks later they were raving about the 25 degrees coming out of the vents. On my way home it dawned on me that 25 was too cold. The so called experts completely overlooked the high pressure cut off sensor. Once I changed that, my AC worked fine. I also used a hole saw to drill a hole in the airbox so I could spray foaming coil cleaner on the evaporator, since Ford, in their infinite wisdom did not provide a cabin air filter on the 2004 F150

Well Done video. The PCM is no longer my adversary, Its my buddy. We used Forscan on a 2010 Crown Vic and determined short in clutch relay circuit, With help from a wiring diagram found pin number at pcm and color wire. We continuity tested wires to find break and spliced in a new wire. A/C cold ! Accessing the PCM can be intimidating at first. Patience and lots of Google..

The low pressure protection circuit is for more than just the oil. Refrigerant helps dissipate heat form the compressor. Running without refrigerant will overheat the compressor. That would be like blocking the airflow across your radiator, the engine would seize up even with plenty of oil.

Funny how this video shows up in my feed. Last Wednesday 5-8-19 it got above 80°F in western Indiana which made inside of car over 100°F. So I turned on A/C and started towards town. Stopped to turn corner and huge puff of smoke came from under hood. A/C clutch was on fire. Turned off A/C and all was good again and smoke cleared. That's funny because the night before it worked perfect like it always does. In the last 4 years I've had everything except compressor replaced by pro shops and it's worked beautifully. Tomorrow afternoon I have an appointment at my Ford shop in town for A/C repair. Can't fix it myself because it's mounted on the bottom of engine which is strange and so it has to go up on a lift. Don't know if it's failed bearings in the clutch or if the compressor locked up for some reason.

There is no easier check if your Ford A/C is not working... check the high and low pressure valves (usually the issue is in the Low side). If there is a white residue, the gas leaked out. Do not buy a refill can. Take it to a professional as they need to create a vacuum and then refill it. If it should work right after. In some cases you will need to replace the valve which looks like a oversize pneumatic tire valve. The o-ring can leak over time. Another thing, use your A/C system. It is more likely to leak or die from lack or use.

Fixed my 2008 f350 AC with this video. Compressor wouldn’t engage at all and was seeing too high of a pressure on the low side service port. Turns out the electrical connection to the compressor was loose. I tightened it up and then the compressor would come on for a couple of seconds and then stop. The refrigerant recharge bottle wasn’t seated deep enough. I reseated it and when the compressor did run for a few seconds I saw the refrigerant was low. Filled it up with a recharge kit and now I have a working AC!

Makuloco thanks for all the videos. I have a 2013 Explorer Limited 2.0 Ecoboost. The AC in it works sort of. When driving and in motion works great when still or in slow moving traffic it is awful. To me this suggest air flow or fan problem. Is there a way with ForScan to trigger the High speed on the fan? If High speed didn't work wouldn't that throw a MIL? The temp in it stays constant according to the dash. Right in the middle never gets hot but I honestly don't recall the fan EVER going into high except when I changed the turbo, added coolant, and waited and waited and waited for the thermostat to kick in so I could add the other half of my coolant. At which point the head slightly temporarily for just a min or less overheated. As SOON as the thermostat FINALLY put coolant in the block I added coolant to top it off. Other than that instance I don't recall the fan going into high. WHere how can I test that? Are you familiar with ForScan? it is a free utility and MANY of us DIY'ers love it Very helpful will do MOST diagnostic and module programing that IDF will do just not main PCM programming.

2006 to 2012 Ford Fusion and the Air blows cold for just a few seconds and then turns to heat, click the temperature control nob two clicks to the right off the coldest setting and start the car/AC. Some folks have said that turning on the headlights and fog lights on also works. I haven't tried it yet because it is 90 degrees here and I'm leaving my AC on and don't want to mess with anything until fall. Apparently, there is some service notification about the computer related to all the vehicle cabin functions and controls that is causing this.

Yes 90% of the time its low AC presure. But allso ~80% of owners dont know when car AC system has bean serviced or that it is recormended to do every 2 years. And if on that two year service time you still see low AC system then you have a leak some where most likely on condencer as you serviced the system and it newer has sean water inside.... Anyway great one!!! I once had one which ended up bean wrong confiq. on PCM or ECM as here manual transmission is 90% on the cars.. Anyway "PCM" (on dtc scanner) had wrong config from older car( just secure update to match the car other modules, was done on it) that it was in and so it did see that AC was wanted, but didnt know what to do with that info as older car didnt have AC. That took a time to figure what the... :D Yeah we only need ac like 2 weeks of the year so it take time to notice after PCM change...

I would like to add a maintenance tip to those that drive a good sound older car. as we know the a/c tubes are made out of aluminum which is a soft metal. As your putting miles of drive time there is slight vibration and if any plastic or metal touching these aluminum a/c tubes a small hole will eventually wear down the aluminum and a small hole will allow freon to escape. I've had the car for 19 years and only major replacements were timing chains. now it's the a/c.

I’ve been having trouble with a 2013 Ford F150 that I just bought. The AC system is just not cooling as well as it should. This is what I got today: System evacuated to 29”hg for 45 min, held vacuum for 10 min, charged with 24 oz 143a as recommended. No air introduced. Brought vehicle to run temp. Gauge readings L42, H190. Climate control set to 60 degrees, Hi Fan, Max AC with recirc on. Ambient temp 91, temp at vent 71. FORScan live data: AC clutch engaged (never cycled in 45 minutes of running) Evap temp 58 left blend door 4% right blend door 3% recirc door position rotates between RECIRC, Fresh Air, error about every 5 seconds. Internal temp 88 HVAC DTC: Code B183 Recirculation Damper Motor with Additional Fault Symptom: Mechanical Failures My thought is to start with the recirc door. The DTC and live data indicate to me that the motor is not working and the door is likely stuck in the fresh air position, or somewhere in between. I’m going to access it from underneath by taking the blower motor out rather than taking the whole dash apart. If it is stuck open, that would be affecting my Evap temp, right? Also, the blend doors should be at 0% when the climate controls are at the lowest temperature setting right? They are working, but just stop at 3-4% on the lowest temp setting. Is that enough to worry about? Is there a way to calibrate them? At any rate, I think the recirc door is my biggest issue. Any input would be appreciated.

Yes. If AC not blowing cold that usually indicates compressor not coming on... vehicles wont turn it on if pressure isn't right because improper pressure wont circulate the PAG oil through the compressor, causing extreme damage. First thing to verify is the compressor not turning on/engaging (audible "click" with change in RPM), then check low side pressure to get reading (note itll vary based on vehicle as well as ambient outside temperature)...

This is an awesome video and has helped me get very close to fixing my AC issue. But... I’m stuck. 2003 Ford Expedition 5.4 2V (250K miles) that had a loud noise when original compressor clutch kicked on. Clutch eventually would not come on at all. I replaced compressor and clutch, new drier, and new front and rear expansion valves. Vacuumed and added refrigerant to ~80 psi (would not take any more 12 oz cans) but clutch would not engage. Downloaded FORScan software and can command on clutch through self test. Have tested low and high side sensors which appear to be okay. Checked ambient temperature sensor as well. Still, clutch will not engage through DATC. Bad DATC? On FORScan scan ACC shows off, ACP shows open (ok), WAC/ACCR shows off, and WAC_F shows no fault. I’m sure it’s something simple that I’m missing. Would be glad to pay you for some advice.

We have a '16 Escape. A couple of months ago I noticed that when we left the house it would take 2 miles for the a/c to come on whereas before it came right on and cooled very well. It didn't do this every time we drove it but it did start doing this more and more frequently so we had a TRUSTED mechanic that we've used for 20 years check it. He reported that the system pressures were fine and he started and ran the a/c several times over 2 days and couldn't get the system to not work. When it cools it cools WELL, its just that it doesn't always come on. Would this test of the PCM yield an answer to an intermittent problem? IF this was an older vehicle I would be looking at the pressure switch.......

My 04 Eddie Baur Expy is being weird (again, always has a/c issues.) This time the a/c not blowing out of the front vents at all. Not even from the defrost vents. But, the rear vents are working perfectly. We just hit 102 weather, and its not fun to drive around in the heat.

I know this is an old video, but I wanted to ask a question anyway. I have 2014 Ford Focus SE. Very randomly the A/C compressor will not come on. Generally this is while driving down the road on a long trip. It doesn't matter what the outside temperature is. While it is running, the temperature is very cold.. Then all of a sudden the compressor will not engage. The light is on and the fan is blowing, but no cold air. This will happens randomly about two or three times per month. I found that when this happens, I can just pull over to the side of the road and cycle the ignition switch off and then back on. The compressor will then come back on every time and run for the rest of the trip. I've had it in the Ford garage two times and both times they say that there is noting wrong with the A/C. It is working fine. They say to bring it back in when this problem is happening. The problem is that when you shut the engine off and re-start it, the compressor works fine. Do you have any idea what could be causing this. The Ford people don't! I bought this care in 2015 with 33,00 miles on it. I know have 173,000 miles on it. This problem has been happening every since I first bought the car. It always had this problem.

Quick question my ac works and clutch engages. The low pressure line is cold. Then after driving for about 10 minutes the car starts blowing warm air. And the ac clutch stops spinning and the low pressure line is warm. But I can wait 5 mins with hood open start it up and ac starts working until it heats up in the engine bay again. Fans are working, relays are fine, and there is enough freon in the car.

2004 F150. My ac eventually blows cool, but never cold. I thought it was low on Freon, so I got some from Napa. But when I hooked it up, turned it over, the pressure gauge would go up and down even before i would press the trigger to release Freon. It read in middle green, 40-50psi. Theres a sound from maybe the clutch, then i lose pressure again. What do you think I should do?

I got a 2022 ford edge and the ford dealership says it’s easily $1000 to fix it. It’s a hot summer when I have two kids and a dog. I’m gonna take it to another mechanic and I’ll edit this post later

I have a 07 mustang the ac doesn't want to work. New compressor freon at the right level new fan and it'll only work at idle for about 5 seconds and then will go off for about 5 minutes and back on for 5 seconds but when it works the pressures are great. 94° 274 on the h and 55 on the L
